Little Buddy

Cricket is asked to mentor a rambunctious child for the community center's child service program, while Tilly develops a cult following.

"Little Buddy" contains examples of:

  • Bottle Episode: The entire episode is set within the community center.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Chase says Cricket's catchphrase "Bingo-bango!" before beginning to perform the Human Wrecking Ball.
  • Broken Pedestal: This happened when Chase found out Cricket was Just Here for the Free Snacks and threw a dodgeball at him as payback. Fortunately, it becomes a Rebuilt Pedestal when Cricket apologizes to Chase and admits his mistakes. The two of them had a great time with their human bullet stunt afterwards.
  • Character Development: At first Chase was all wild and crazy and tortured Cricket, but after learning how to do stunts with Cricket, Chase softens up and became good friends.
  • Cult: The Till-ites, an organization started by Emma and the other kids following her increasing obsession over Tilly and wanting to be just like her, which weirds her out.
  • Just Here for the Free Snacks: Cricket only goes along with the Little Buddy program because of the pizza being served afterwards. When time is over and Cricket drops being with Chase to go eat pizza, Chase is hurt.
  • Le Parkour: Cricket teaches it to Chase, calling it "ping-ponging."
  • Loony Fan: Emma and the Till-ites to the uncomfortable Tilly throughout the second half of the episode. They want to be just like her, to the point they paint their clothes and restyle their hair to look like her, and follow her every move.
  • Sad-Times Montage: Cricket has several memories of all the fun times he had with Chase, all set to a sultry ballad, which Cricket comments aside didn't really happen.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Tilly finds her lil' buddy and all her followers getting too much of her for too long, she decides it's time to bounce and has them close their eyes and meditate while she makes her escape.
  • Shipped in Shackles: When Community Sue brings in Chase, he's in a metal cage like a wild animal.
  • "YEAH!" Shot: The episode ends on Cricket and Chase wreaking chaos with their human bullet stunt, the image freezing on them enjoying themselves with "BUDDIES 4 LIFE" superimposed over it.

Zen Garden

Gramma takes Bill to a spa to calm him of his obsession for the garden, and Nancy is left to do his things and gets more than what she bargained for.

"Zen Garden" contains examples of:

  • Angrish: Bill loses his cool when the spa manager tried different methods to help with his stress issues.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Failing to brush Melissa more times than Miss Brenda causes her to become jealous and eat everything in sight; she even eats up the to-do list Bill gave Nancy. She also eats the coupons Bill got in the end.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end, Bill has finally learned to relax, but then Melissa eats the coupons meant for his family and Cricket asks how much it cost, setting him off once again.
  • Inevitably Broken Rule: Nancy doesn't take Bill's instructions seriously, which cause problems later on.
    • The second item on Bill's list is to brush the cow Miss Brenda three hundred times to get it ready for plowing the field, then brushing the goat Melissa three hundred and one times. Nancy thinks it's ridiculous and doesn't do it; but then when the time comes to plow, Miss Brenda won't let herself be hitched to the plow because the brushing got her calm enough to do so. And Melissa has to be brushed more than Brenda because otherwise she gets jealous and acts up.
    • Another item is to heat the gloves to 80 degrees. Again, Nancy finds it unnecessary, but then she has to use the gloves to grab Melissa and it turns out cold gloves just make her angrier.
  • Long List: The list of chores Bill leaves Nancy at first doesn't seem so hard... until it unfolds and turns out to be about six feet long.
  • Made of Iron: Bill is so stressed out, his skin and muscles are as hard as steel. A masseuse broke her hands trying to massage him, and acupuncture needles bend into uselessness instead of breaking the skin.
Masseuse: Aaagh! It's like massaging a brick wall!
  • Shoo the Dog: Nancy has to yell at Bill to get in the truck to the spa as if he were a dog going to the vet.
