Ben Tennyson...meet Kevin 11.

Ben's aliens have been creating havoc all across the country. Have they, really? As Federal agents come gunning for him in San Francisco, Ben sets out to find the real perpetrator and clear his name.

Tropes

  • A Rotten Time to Revert: Kevin experiences this when he unexpectedly changes back to human while flying over the Golden Gate Bridge.
  • Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better: Ben tries invoking this when he sees Kevin-as-Upgrade hijack a cable car, but the Omnitrix turns him into Wildmutt instead.
  • Body Horror: The mutant Kevin 11 is not a pretty picture to look at.
  • Continuity Nod: Gwen immediately blames Ben for the other aliens causing trouble, all of which his Omnitrix can change him into. One of the acts includes stealing from a video game store that Ben was previously waiting in line at. Ben and Kevin had tried to steal some games in "Kevin 11", which led to Gwen's accusation here.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Kevin-as-Upgrade vs Ben-as-Wildmutt. Nothing Wildmutt does can faze Upgrade all that much, and the damage and environmental control that Upgrade is capable of quickly sends Wildmutt to his knees.
    • Steel vs. Kevin on top of the Golden Gate Bridge. Kevin is Diamondhead at the time, so Steel is outmatched from the beginning, and ends up being thrown like a rag doll against the bridge, giving him a black eye, a swollen cheek, and probably a lot more from being thrown at top speed against a steel bridge. Kevin is preparing to cut off his head when Ben arrives.
  • Delayed Reaction: Gwen tells Ben to stop interrupting her while she's busy chewing out "Ben" and it takes her a second to realize that the Heatblast she's talking to isn't her cousin.
  • Failed a Spot Check: For some reason, Gwen and Max don't notice that Kevin's alien forms don't have the Omnitrix symbol on them, which Ben could have pointed out in order to prove his innocence to them earlier. Especially egregious when Gwen confronts Heatblast and doesn't realize that he's not Ben until the latter is standing right behind her, despite the fact that Heatblast doesn't have the Omnitrix symbol on his chest.
  • Foreshadowing: If one looks closely, they'll notice that all the aliens that Ben transforms into has the Omnitrix symbol, while the aliens that Kevin transforms into doesn't.
  • Frame-Up: The overall premise.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Reconstructed with Steel towards the end. When Kevin 11 is about to kill Ben, he gives a little speech about how the latter's good guy status makes him incapable of killing the former. Steel responds "But I do."
  • Involuntary Shapeshifting: While he could transform at will at first, absorbing too much of the Omnitrix's power causes him to mutate into a horrific fusion of Ben's aliens. And he has no way of changing back.
  • Never My Fault: Kevin evokes this twice. When Ben calls him out for hurting innocent people, he shouts, "Nobody's innocent! They just haven't got the chance to make fun of me yet!". After absorbing too much of the Omnitrix DNA, Kevin permanently mutates into a fusion of Ben's Alien forms, and quickly blames him for it.
Kevin: I-I can't change back! I'm stuck like this! Look at what you've done!
  • No One Could Survive That!: Gwen wonders aloud if Kevin didn't survive getting blasted and falling into the bay. Ben, however, is certain that Kevin could bounce back. Sure enough, the last scene of the episode shows bubbles where Kevin fell, as he recovers while using Ripjaws' gills to breathe.
  • Not Worth Killing: During their final fight, Kevin reverts back to his human form and is helpless. As Four Arms, Ben looks as though he's about to deliver a killing blow, but he intentionally misses, walks away and says to Kevin he's not worth it and never was. Unfortunately, this causes Kevin to become so full of rage and hate that it causes his Painful Transformation.
Kevin: Get back here and fight, Tennyson! I'm not through with you yet!
Four Arms: But I'm through with you. You're not worth it. You never were.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Ben is normally a Blood Knight in combat, and salivates at thoroughly defeating one of his foes. However, Kevin 11 is such a personal foe for him that he takes fighting against him very seriously once he realizes that he's still around and wants revenge. Furthermore, he opts to leave Kevin to get arrested by the feds after he's seemingly beaten for the count, feeling it's not worth it to continue to engage with him.
  • Painful Transformation: Kevin's transformation triggered by his rage and hate appears to cause him massive pain.
  • Sequel Episode: To Kevin 11, with Kevin making his return after his last battle with Ben had him absorb energy from the Omnitrix.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: Kevin is unable to turn back into his normal self for the rest of the series and then some.
  • Wham Episode: This episode marks Kevin 11's change into what would become his best known appearance in the Original Series, an amalgamation of every alien Ben had at the time, and cements his position as a major antagonist for the rest of the series.
  • Wham Shot: The impostor alien changing to his true face: Kevin Levin.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Ben (as Four Arms) didn't know that Steel was looking on when it was just the former and Kevin on the bridge. He could've killed Kevin for endangering the innocent and causing Ben so much trouble (not including their first meeting in "Kevin 11"). Instead, he spares him on the basis that Kevin isn't worth his time. This is what ultimately convinces Steel that Ben's aliens are not dangerous.
