The Tennysons visit an underwater resort located in the Bermuda Triangle and meet the owner, Grandpa Max's wealthy friend Donovan GrandSmith, and his aloof grandson, Edwin. Everything falls apart when the resort is attacked by mysterious cybernetic squid aliens.
Tropes:
- Break Out the Museum Piece: Played with. While Donovan is led to believe that the kids got the old submarine working again, in reality, Ben used Upgrade to make it functional.
- Calling the Old Man Out: After the Cyber Squids cause the resort to start flooding, Edwin calls out his grandfather for taking something from them, and for how he treats him.Edwin: I knew you shouldn’t have taken it! I knew it!
Donovan: Edwin, quiet! I’m sure it has nothing to do with this.
Max: Taken what, Donovan?
Donovan: Edwin doesn't know what he's talking about!
Edwin: How would you know? All you ever hear from me is what you wanna hear! - Control Freak: Donovan borders on this, trying to make Edwin a "mini-me" version of him. He gets better in the end.
- Deducing the Secret Identity: Despite Gwen's best efforts, Edwin quickly figures out that the aliens helping them are Ben. He points out that Ben disappears shortly before a helpful alien appears.
- Heel Realization: After being separated from his grandson, Donovan looks at a photo on his phone of him and Edwin. Reflecting on how Edwin's never looked happy being his mini-me, he turns to Max on advice to be a better grandfather, if only with the intent to treat his grandson better should he survive.
- Parents as People: Or in the case of Donovan, "Grandparents as people". He genuinely cares about Edwin's well-being, but rather than treat him as his own person, he's more focused on making Edwin like him. Eventually, he does recognize the error of his ways.
- Race Against the Clock: Ripjaws vs the aliens is subject to this, as Ben is miles underwater with only ten minutes to get rid of the aliens before he changes back. He shreds dozens of aliens attacking the submersible, and only barely makes it back inside before the Omnitrix times out.
- We Are Not Going Through That Again: At the end of the episode, Donovan announces he has another idea for a resort, this time on the moon. Needless to say, the Tennysons politely decline when he in invites them.
