A rematch years in the making.
Following Kevin's failed attempt to hack the Omnitrix, several of Ben's aliens get released into the city and the team has to collect them before confronting Vilgax.- All Webbed Up: After escaping the Omnitrix, a feral Spidermonkey ties Gwen up this way.
- Bait-and-Switch: At first Gwen thinks that Ben transformed into Chromastone in order to survive the explosion. Then Spidermonkey also comes out of the rubble and both escape. This is before it's revealled his aliens have been released from the Omnitrix.
- The Bus Came Back: After Vilgax destroys Chromastone's body, the Omnitrix starts levitating, picks up Chromastone's crystals and transforms them into Diamondhead.
- Call-Back: When Kevin suggests that Spidermonkey might lay eggs in Gwen’s brain, his rationale is that Ben has laid eggs before, referring to Big Chill’s pregnancy period.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Vilgax utterly beats Ben and shatters his Chromastone body. Soon, however, Ben is transformed into Diamondhead and defeats Vilgax.
- Foreshadowing: After Chromastone gets destroyed, the Omnitrix picks ups his crystals and transforms Ben into Diamondhead, which foreshadows their connection.
- Gotta Catch Them All: Before confronting Vilgax, the team is forced to go throughout the city and collect the escaped aliens so Ben can be at full power when he fights Vilgax.
- Forced Transformation: Due to the explosion and Omnitrix wave, Kevin has permanently absorbed the materials around him and his body is essentially a combination of different materials. Thankfully, this specific mutation doesn't drive him insane this time.
- Little "No": Gwen, after Ben (as Chromastone) gets shattered by Vilgax.
- Not Quite Dead: Ben seemingly gets killed when Vilgax shatters Chromastone's body. As we soon see, he transforms into Diamondhead.
- Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: After Ben suddenly reforms as Diamondhead.Ben: You're in trouble, Vilgax. I've had a lot of practice with this one.
- Self-Plagiarism: Dwayne McDuffie reuses the gag of a terrifying villain following a death threat with “Is now a bad time?” from The Doomsday Sanction.
- Stealthy Colossus: Lampshaded, when Ben wonders how Waybig was able to leave the garage without being noticed or causing any damage.
- Touch the Intangible: Vilgax is able to use his gauntlet to grab Big Chill.
- We Will Meet Again: After being defeated and forced to depart, Vilgax promises to settle up with Ben again some day. Ben is unsurprisingly flippant about it.
- Wham Episode: Vilgax battles Ben for the first time since the original show, Kevin transforms into an amalgam of various materials and Ben loses Chromastone...for a while.
- Wham Shot:
- Gwen sees Chromastone emerge from the rubble and assumes Ben simply transformed to protect himself from the explosion. Then Spidermonkey also emerges from the rubble.
- The shards of Chromastone reforming as Diamondhead.
- Weak, but Skilled: Ben as Diamondhead is able to defeat Vilgax not by virtue of being stronger than the other aliens he used, but Ben having far more experience using Diamondhead compared to them, as it was the third alien he'd ever transformed into.
