Recap / Behind the Alien: Bushwhacker

Go To

We take a look at the planet Herbagarden, the home planet of the Psychloron, the species of Bushwhacker.

  • Birth-Death Juxtaposition: When a Psychloron dies, it leaves behind a seed, which when buried will one day grow into a Psychloro Tree and from that a new Psychloron. It is debated on the exact lifecycle of the Psychlorons, with some thinking the seed is the true beginning of a Psychloron's life, some thinking the tree is the final stage of life that ends when the Psychloron head inside gains enough Flower-Power to break it apart, and others think a Psychloron never truly dies but is in a constant cycle of deaths and rebirths similar to reincarnation.
  • Bookends: The first Psychloron seen is just a newborn that emerges from a tree and is found by a group of older Psychlorons shortly afterwards. The final scene of the chapter has a group of Psychlorons bury their dead friend's seed, and shortly afterwards find another Psychloro Tree where another newborn emerges.
  • Noodle Incident: The narrator states in the beginning they're on notice for losing one of their explorers. This is never elaborated on.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: The Psychloron Vampire literally has the word in its name. It is the only organic life on the planet, and it hunts the other forms of life to drain them of their Flower-Power and psychic energy. It is a reptile though instead of the traditional bat-like vampires.
  • Shout-Out: The description of the Psycholorn Vampire is similar to that of Petaldramon of Digimon Frontier.
  • Token Aquatic Race: The Selafolian is the only alien given focus in this chapter that lives in the ocean. Despite being a plant, it resembles a shark and functions like a venus flytrap.
  • Weakened by the Light: Befitting its name, the Psychloron Vampire can't stand even the dullest of sunlight. Thus the Psychloron have taken to being nocturnal and sleeping during the day when the Psychloron Vampire can't reach them, barring any unforeseen situations like clouds blocking the sun.
