Recap / Beast Wars S 1 E 19 Call Of The Wild

Go To

The Predacons steal a vital component of the maximal base, forcing them to stay in beast mode until their animal instincts take over.

  • Bond Villain Stupidity: Even if the problem its theft presented was overcome in an entirely unrelated way, the Predacons probably should've just destroyed The Axalon's stolen hardware and thus eliminated the only apparent possibility of the Maximals regaining their senses.
  • The Darkness Gazes Back: Optimus Primal's second dream involves being surrounded by eyes staring at him from the dark jungle.
  • Evil Laugh: Megatron after explaining the details of his plan. He then glares at his troops, expecting accompaniment, and Waspinator and Terrorsaur oblige.
  • Foreshadowing: The episode begins with Cheetor waking up from a nightmare, his eyes were briefly beast-like as the rest of the team later on.
  • Great White Hunter: Ever the theatric, Megatron gets fully into the part for his hunt of the feral Maximals, being carted around on a makeshift palanquin while armed with a massive hunting rifle.
  • Hunting the Most Dangerous Game: Megatron directly refers to "hunting" the instinct-crazed Maximals, and it comes with all the trappings of a safari outing, complete with drum beat.
  • Idiot Ball: Megatron grabs one when he leaves the entire Predacon base undefended while out on his hunt for the Maximals. Airazor is able to walk into the base and just grab the rectifier coil that was stolen, but she had free rein of the base and could have done a lot of damage.
    • Likely justified as Megatron assumed that all the Maximals were affected by his plan and was unaware that Airazor was still herself; it wouldn't be hard for him to assume that he either missed a falcon flying away at night or that the feral Dinobot or Cheetor ate her before they left the base.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: Justified. While Tigatron goes to corral the others and help them reassert control of their instincts, Airazor goes to the Predacon Base to retrieve the rectifier coil.
  • My Instincts Are Showing: The premise of the episode, basically. Being confined to beast mode for days without rest thanks to the Pred's continued harassment, leaves the Maximals vulnerable to their animal forms natural instincts until their completely overtaken by them in a state akin to sleep walking.
  • Now You Tell Me: After Terrorsaur and Waspinator get the rectifier coil, Megatron orders the others to fall back. Tarantulas (in the process of getting spun around by Dinobot) is not exactly appreciative.
Tarantulas: Now, he tells me! [screams, as he gets sent flying]
  • Rule of Cool: The Maximals defeat the Predacons using tricks and deception while in their beast modes. It'd be a lot more practical to handle things in their robot mode, but this makes the point of the episode better.
  • Split-Personality Merge: How the Maximals get a grip on their beast instincts, by deleting a programming block mentally separating their two sides.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: As the Predacons continue the hunt, explosions suddenly start occurring off in the distance.
    Megatron: Uh-oh.
  • Trash the Set: The bridge of the Axalon suffers another one of these instances when Primal and Rattrap's animal instincts start getting the better of them. Rhinox ends their quarrel by throwing the command table into the bridge entryway, smashing the glass in the process.
  • You Are Too Late: As their mental states decline, Rhinox attempted to contact Tigatron. By the time Tigatron receives the message and gets to the base, the others have gone feral and become targets in the hunt.
