Recap / Batman Wayne Family Adventures Episode 68 Thankful

Go To

During a video call about a case, Dick finds out that Alfred will be alone in Wayne Manor over Thanksgiving.

Tropes:

  • Armor-Piercing Response: Jason is in the middle of explaining that he can't be home in three days when Dick cuts in to say that they left Alfred alone for Thanksgiving. Jason says nothing for a moment and then agrees.
  • Death Glare: Batman initially says he can't promise to be home for the holidays, given the importance of the case. However, after Robin (Damian) gives him a glare, he gives in.
  • Expressive Mask: Jason's Red Hood mask somehow manages to show his eyes widening and his eyebrows leaping up after Dick tells him that they left Alfred alone for the holidays.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Even though Jason is rather rough around the edges, he's horrified when Dick tells him that the Bat-Family accidentally left Alfred alone for Thanksgiving and promises he'll call in the Outlaws so that he can wrap the case up in time to be home for the holidays.
  • Kinda Busy Here: Dick calls Jason while the latter is in the middle of a firefight. Jason keeps chatting with his older brother while he's dealing with the situation, though Dick is wise enough to keep it brief.
  • Manly Tears: After Dick gives him an emotional speech, Alfred gets a tear in the corner of his eye as he hugs him.
  • The Needs of the Many: Alfred accidentally lets it slip that he's alone in the manor for the next week, to Dick's horror. Alfred tells him not to worry; the cases they're on are important. After hanging up, Dick says that Alfred is also important and sets about getting everyone back in time for the holidays.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Damian is "still working on his people skills" to the point that he thinks knives are an appropriate response to something he doesn't like. He still ends up guilting his more-normal-by-comparison father into agreeing to be home for the holidays rather than neglecting Alfred for the case.
  • The Stoic: Alfred's emotional reactions are fairly understated.
  • The Strategist: Upon getting Dick's call, Tim rethinks his plan, deciding to cut ten steps and change the location of the sting so that he can finish the case and be home for Thanksgiving.
  • Stunned Silence: Jason says nothing for an entire panel after Dick tells him that Alfred is alone.
  • Thanksgiving Episode: The episode concerns Dick trying to make sure everyone gets home in time for Thanksgiving so Alfred won't have to spend the holidays alone, and it ends with the family sitting down to dinner.
  • Title Drop: While explaining why he organized everything, Dick tells Alfred that he and Bruce have given everyone in the manor a new home to make up for the traumas of their past and they are thankful for him every day. Alfred tells Dick that he's thankful for all of them too.
