Recap / Batman Wayne Family Adventures Episode 39 Secret Identity

Go To

I'm worried about my secret identity. I think I might be attracting too much attention. It's getting harder to explain away the sudden absences and all the bruises I get on patrol.
Duke

Duke confers with Luke and Tim about his difficulty maintaining a secret identity.

Tropes

  • Body Double: One of Tim's ideas involves getting a shapeshifter to pose as Duke so that people can see "Duke" and the Signal at the same time and assume that they can't be the same person. Duke agrees that he could go with that if Luke's suggestions don't work.
  • Complexity Addiction: Tim's suggestions are rather complicated, involving things like using a shapeshifter so that Duke and Signal can appear at the same time, and faking an injury serious enough to require physical therapy so that people will believe that Duke can't currently be out fighting supervillains.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: Duke is having trouble keeping his identity as Signal secret from his friends in his civilian life and asks Luke and Tim for help because he doesn't like lying to his friends so much.
  • Merchandising the Monster: The trio meet up at Batburger, which has the option to "Jokerize" your fries and a veggie burger advertised using Poison Ivy's likeness.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Tim's suggestion for maintaining a secret identity is to fake being injured publicly and then spend time recovering and doing physical therapy for it, like he did for a year in Red Robin. Duke does not want to further disrupt his civilian life with fake therapy and such.
  • Secret Identity: Duke, Luke and Tim discuss the complications of maintaining a secret identity. Tim tells Duke that it's one of the hardest parts of superheroing, and it never gets easier.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Luke's suggestions are less complicated than Tim's and the one Duke ultimately decides to try is lying low for a while.
