Recap / Batman Wayne Family Adventures Episode 100 Enough

Go To

Spoiler springs a trap...but the thief turns out to be not her target, Clyne, but his more innocent son. With Jason and Barbara, Stephanie struggles with how to handle something that could destroy the young man's life.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: In-Universe; Stephanie thinks Clyne sent his son in to steal the jewelry while Jason suggests that the son did it himself to grab some of his father's stash. Jason turns out to be correct, though the motive is getting his father's attention rather than monetary gain.
  • Call-Back: The multiple references the comic has made to Stephanie's past as Cluemaster's daughter and her insecurity about getting away from his reputation play a major role in the story.
  • Close to Home: Stephanie finds the entire thing frustrating because of her past as the daughter of a supervillain; parents messing up their children's lives angers her.
  • Commonality Connection: While Steph doesn't tell Erik who her father is (for obvious reasons), she uses her past as a means of connecting with him and letting him know that she does understand what he's going through.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Stephanie is blonde, and a lot of the story centers around her angst and frustration that her latest caught criminal is just a teenager, who's probably been messed up by having a thief for a dad and will now have a criminal record, changing his life permanently.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite Jason's rough edges, he pushes Stephanie to tell him and Barbara what's wrong and gives her a heartfelt speech on the importance of positive direction in an angry young person's life.
  • Mythology Gag: During Jason's speech, one panel shows his well-known backstory as a street kid, about to be caught by Batman as he attempts to steal the tires off the Batmobile.
  • Older Than They Look: When Spoiler pulls the thief's mask off to reveal a teenager, she quips that either this isn't Clyne or else Clyne wears his age well for a guy in his forties.
  • Percussive Therapy: Stephanie punches the counter in anger over the situation.
  • Recruited from the Gutter: Jason's backstory; he was a street kid whom Bruce recruited as the second Robin after catching him trying to strip the Batmobile of its tires. Jason says that he was lucky to get a positive direction for his life at that juncture so that he didn't spiral into self-destruction.
  • Stranger Behind the Mask: When Spoiler unmasks the thief, she realizes that not only is he not who she thought he was, but also she has no idea who he is. She has to bring in Oracle to find out.
  • Trapped the Wrong Target: Stephanie springs on a jewelry thief, thinking that it's a criminal she's been hunting...only to pull off the mask and discover the thief is much too young.
