After a series of unexplainable events, all the kids in Terry's class think that the ghost of a dead student is haunting their high school. But Batman soon discovers the real cause: Willie Watt, who has developed powerful new psychic abilities.

Tropes featured:

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Subverted. Bruce doubts that there is actually a ghost haunting Terry's school, but it's not because he doesn't believe in ghosts. He does, he's met a few himself (Deadman and Gentleman Ghost, for example) along with much weirder things during his superhero career. He just doesn't think this case fits the bill.
Bruce: These people believe anything they can't explain is magic.
Terry: Naturally, you don't believe in those kind of things.
Bruce: Of course I do. I've Seen It All: Demons, witch boys, immortals, zombies. But this thing...I don't know. It just feels so...so "high school."
  • Cover-Blowing Superpower: Willie outs himself as a telekinetic when Terry throws a glass at his head and he instinctively uses his powers to stop it.
  • Dramatic Irony: When Terry doesn't know the well-known story of a deceased student who allegedly died during construction on the school due to his Batman duties, Dana asks, "Where have you been for the past two weeks? In a cave?" Terry simply gives a dumbstruck "Uh..." response.
  • Forceful Kiss: Willie tries to use his psychic ability to make Blade make out with him. To say she's not on board is an understatement. Thankfully, Batman interrupts.
Willie: Almost let down my defenses, and just for a kiss!
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Willie's whole character arc.
  • Happier Home Movie: Terry and Matt bond by looking at pictures of themselves with their dad during a camping trip a few years earlier.
  • Hypocrite: Nelson complains that it's not fair when Willie uses his psychic powers against him. Nelson didn't care about fairness back when Willie was a weakling.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: Terry gets Willie to talk about the damaged school, which he couldn't have known about because, according to the guards, no one's visited Willie since he got sent to juvie (not even his own dad).
  • Let's Fight Like Gentlemen: Nelson goads Willie into fighting him without his psychic powers. Physically, they're equally strong, but Nelson still has better fighting skills, so Willie ends up using his powers again to defeat Nelson.
  • Might as Well Not Be in Prison at All: Willy is fully capable of exerting his telekinetic abilities to do whatever he wants wherever he pleases while still being in juvenile hall, though he admits that he does this on purpose because in a short time he will be let out legally and with all this power that no one is aware of. That all ends after his powers are exposed and Terry recaptures him. He's last seen shackled and wearing a Power Limiter helmet that negates his telekinesis... and he still doesn't get any visitors.
  • Modesty Towel: Dana, Chelsea, Blade and other schoolgirls wear towels during a shower scene.
  • Mood Whiplash: During a lighthearted conversation at home, Matt says that it's cool that a ghost may be haunting the high school. Then he goes onto say that it means they may be able to see Dad again. Terry and Mary don't know how to respond at first.
  • Outside Ride: Willie stands on top of the hood of Nelson's car, using his telekinesis to keep his balance and steer it all at once.
  • Parental Abandonment: Not even Willie's dad has visited him since he left.
  • Power Nullifier: After being defeated, Willie is forced to wear a device that prevents him from using his powers.
  • Power Perversion Potential: Terry after being told that there's a ghost in the girls' shower (and him with a batsuit that has a built-in camouflage system):
Terry: An invisible boy in the showers...Why didn't I think of that?
  • Prisons Are Gymnasiums: Willie Watt has bulked up a lot since being sent to juvie. However, see Surprisingly Realistic Outcome.
  • Properly Paranoid: Terry is recognized by the prison guard from his previous stint in Juvie, and is informed that he will be monitored at all times. This ends up paying off when Willie is tricked into revealing his psychic powers and starts lashing out, at which point the guards rush in to protect Terry.
  • Sequel Episode: To Season One's "Golem", picking up Willie's storyline in the aftermath of his defeat and incarceration.
  • Spotting the Thread: Before he sees Willie, Terry is told by his caretaker that nobody has visited him, not even his own father. During their visit, Willie tries to claim he's heard about the ghost stories at school from visitors, but it does not fly over Terry's head that this is a lie: he distinctly recalls that nobody has visited Willie.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Putting on extra muscle doesn't automatically make you a better fighter. When Willie tries to fight Nelson hand to hand, he still gets trounced, forcing Willie to fall back on his psychic powers again.
  • This Is Reality: Matt is interested in the idea of a ghost haunting Terry's school; he says hopefully that maybe Warren will come back as a ghost. Terry and his mother are silent for a moment; then Mary gently tells Matt that people don't come back as ghosts, not even in this world. Of course Deadman and Gentleman Ghost both exist in this universe, and Bruce has no problem believing it could be a ghost.
