Charlotte is kidnapped and held in an ominously familiar location, while Gereon and Benda's case against the Black Reichswehr stalls. Greta witnesses a horrifying scene. In police custody, the Black Reichswehr leaders are visited by a collaborator. Charlotte fights for survival.

Tropes:

  • Answer Cut: When Henning and Czerwinski reiterate that Charlotte has failed to turn up the scene cuts to Charlotte awakening in a freezer.
  • Bait-and-Switch Gunshot: When Moritz comes across Bruno's supremely illegal army-grade weapons stockpile in the cellar, Bruno grabs a sniper rifle and leads the boy out into a deserted compound next to the house, where he orders him to walk several paces out in front while taking aim with the sniper rifle in the process. When Moritz places the cabbage, as ominous music plays, and Bruno still takes aim, a gunshot rings out...Moritz destroys the cabbage with the rifle. Bruno admires his aim.
  • Cacophony Cover Up: The assassination attack at the opera is planned to take place at the exact moment when there is a shootout on stage in order to cover for the noise.
  • Government Conspiracy: The Conspiracy widens. The arrest warrant against the Black Reichswehr leaders was altered... by the office of Reichspraesident Hindenburg. Interrogations of the suspects are to be halted until Hindenburg returns from abroad.
  • Implied Death Threat: In the freezer where Charlotte is held, a thug of the Armenian's enters wordlessly, retrieves fish from a tub and guts it on the table outside. The implications are obvious.
  • I Will Punish Your Friend for Your Failure: When the Armenian questions Charlotte about the location of the Sorokin gold, she legitimately doesn't know. In response, the Armenian threatens the railway worker with a gun, who insists she knows due to being present at the train yard. When she still pleads ignorance, the Armenian backs down.
  • Locked in a Freezer: The Armenian has Charlotte locked in a freezer to make her talk. She gets frost on her face, but survives.
  • Might as Well Not Be in Prison at All: The arrested members of the Black Reichswehr are able to plan and conduct "Operation Prangertag" while under police custody.
  • Neck Lift: The Armenian's Dragon does this to Charlotte until the railway worker intervenes.
  • Organ Grinder: A blind man grinds his organ as Greta exits the local Communist Party meeting hall in search of Fritz. He plays a tune we have heard before and will hear again later.
  • Pillow Pistol: Katelbach is now sleeping with a gun in his hand, paranoid about assassins who have been knocking off his sources and ransacking his office.
  • Sdrawkcab Alias: Gereon goes to rinse his injured fist in warm water, noticing in the mirror in the process that "Nikoros" spells "Sorokin" backwards.
  • Unfolding Plan Montage: The unfolding of "Operation Prangertag" is explained in a montage voiced by Bruno in front of his comrades of the Black Reichswehr.
  • Waking Up Elsewhere: When Charlotte awakes in the freezer, the first thing she sees are fish hanging from racks.
  • You Must Be Cold: The rail worker gives Charlotte her coat out of some sympathy after having punched her in the nose. Charlotte finds Jaenicke's journal in her coat pocket, and begins to decipher it.
