Tropes:
- Ambiguous Situation: It's left ambiguous if Floch lives or dies after getting shot by Gabi. The bullet wound he received wasn't fatal, but he isn't seen getting out of the water after falling into the sea.
- Big Damn Heroes:
- Keith Shadis makes a train full of Yeagerist reinforcements explode, saving the members of the Survey Corps and their allies.
- Falco willingly transforms into his Titan form to fight the Yeagerists, stopping them from killing Reiner and Annie, and giving the Survey Corps an opening that allowed them to gain the upper hand.
- Magath is able to cut Falco out of his Titan form after he loses control of it, saving Pieck, and later he sacrifices himself so his allies could escape.
- Gabi shoots Floch when he's about to destroy the hull of the ship with a Thunder Spear.
- Bloody Horror: Much of the episode has huge amounts of blood, to the point of the sea near the boat being tinted red in the end of the episode.
- Character Death: Theo Magath and Keith Shadis die in the end of the episode.
- Death Seeker: Implied to be Keith Shadis' case:Keith Shadis (to Magath): I've been waiting for a good time to die.
- Everything Makes a Mushroom: The explosion of the Yeagerist ship that Magath and Shadis cause produces a mushroom-like cloud.
- Heroic BSoD: Annie has one by the end of the episode when she understands that, even if she, the Survey Corps and the Warriors reach Eren and manage to stop him, it's too late to avoid the destruction of Liberio, which would mean her father is going to die anyway.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Magath stays behind after the rest of the group gets into the boat so he can light the gunpowder hold of a Yaegerist ship that could have pursued them.
- The Worf Effect: Annie and Reiner, in their Titan forms, have been considered serious threats in the previous seasons. Thanks to the Thunder Spears and the Yaegerists' expertise, the two are nearly killed if not for the rest of the cast backing them up, as well as Falco as the Jaw Titan.
