Tropes:

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Gabi pleads to Armin, Mikasa and Jean to ask Eren to turn Connie's mother into a human again so Connie won't feed Falco to her.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Kaya is separated from her family and is about to be killed by the Titanized Nile Dok, Gabi comes in with an Anti-Titan rifle and blows of its nape, saving her life in a way reminiscent to how Sasha saved her all those years ago.
  • The Bus Came Back: After 56 episodes and four years in story (more than eight years in real life), Annie is finally freed from her crystal after Eren undoes all of the hardening.
  • Call-Back:
    • The fight against the pure titans features many call backs to the first season, back when the narrative was simply about killing titans.
    • Gabi saves Kaya in a manner identical to how Sasha saved Kaya those many years ago. This last call back is acknowledged in-series when Kaya sees Sasha's figure in Gabi after being saved.
    • Nicolo talks about how, if they want to end this cycle of bloodshed and put their Devils to rest, they need to "leave this forest", the words Mr. Blouse said to Nicolo to stop him from killing Gabi.
  • Cerebus Call-Back: Jean, Connie, Armin and Mikasa remember their conversation with Eren in which he tells them and Sasha that he didn't want any one of them to inherit his titans because he didn't want any of them to die in 13 years, and a flashback where Eren tells them they are important to him is shown. Their reasoning that Eren's motivation to do the Rumbling is to protect the important people in his life is all but implied.
  • Character Death: Nile Dok is killed by Gabi, and Dot Pyxis is killed by Armin (after both of them being turned into mindless Titans some episodes before).
  • Distressed Dude: Falco is kidnapped by Connie and he intends on feeding him to his mother so she can become human again.
  • Irony: After spending a great portion of the story believing they were the last remnants of humanity, the Eldians of Paradis may as well become that indeed if Eren is successful at wiping out everyone outside the walls.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Discussed. Jean argues that, had the rest of the world not wanted to wipe out the Eldians in Paradis Island, Eren would never had started the rumbling, and that the rest of the world brought this upon themselves. Armin, however, believes this level of destruction borders on Disproportionate Retribution.
  • Mercy Kill:
    • Armin expresses his thanks to Pyxis, who is transformed into a Pure Titan, for his guidance before putting him down with a Thunder Spear.
    • Jean also expresses this sentiment when rallying the remaining troops against the Titans.
Jean: Think about our friends who got turned! Let's end their suffering here!
  • Oh, Crap!: Armin has this reaction when he finds out from Gabi that the Rumbling removed the Armor around Reiner's Titan and realizes if that true then Annie's crystal was likewise destroyed as well. Sure enough...
  • Turning Back Human: Discussed. When Gabi learns that Connie intends on turning his mom back into human by feeding Falco to her, she begs Armin to ask Eren if he can turn Connie's mother into a human again so Falco doesn't have to die. Armin and the others, however, don't seem to believe this is possible, as Eren didn't turn any of the Titanized military personnel back. With the power Eren now wields, it's obvious that he could do this. It's also obvious why Eren isn't interested in doing Gabi a favor.
  • Villainous B So D: Yelena suffers one after realizing something bad probably happened to Zeke, as he isn't controlling the mindless Titans he created. She is left catatonic by the end of the episode and doesn't even try to defend herself when Floch holds her at gunpoint.
  • Wham Shot: Annie being free from her crystal.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When Armin tries to dissuade Connie on feeding Falco to his mother, reasoning that doing so would just cause a new conflict to arise with Reiner and the Cart Titan, Connie furiously grabs Armin by the collar and tells him how much it hurts to see his mother as a Titan and demands to know why Armin is trying to stop him from bringing him mother back to life.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Despite both Kaya and Nicolo having cause to hate Gabi for killing Sasha, and trying to kill her themselves, after she saves Kaya's life from a Titan they both cover for her when some military personal find them and believe that she is the Marleyan prisoner.
