With the sudden appearance of the Colossal Titan humanity once again faces its extinction at the hands of the Titans. A determined Eren is now ready to use the skills he developed in the Cadets to kill the invading Titans. However Eren is about to learn the harsh reality that just because he thinks he's ready for combat that doesn't mean he is.
Tropes:
- Adaptational Early Appearance: Dot Pixis appears in an original scene in the anime a while before he appeared in the manga showing what he was doing before news of the Trost invasion happened.
- An Arm and a Leg: Eren has his left leg bitten off by one of the Titans and his left arm is separated from him after he is Eaten Alive by one of the Titans.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Eren and his squad are utterly decimated in their first encounter with the Titans, not even lasting a couple of minutes against their foes.
- Eaten Alive: Eren's fate after saving Armin from one of the Titans is to have his left arm bitten off and then swallowed into its stomach.
- Here We Go Again!: The Colossal Titan returns and kicks down the wall again like last time.
- Heroic BSoD: Armin is left in a state of shock after seeing the other members of his team being eaten by Titans not a few minutes after encountering them. He is left in such disarray that he barely even reacts when one of the Titans picks him up and puts him in its mouth.
- Hope Spot: Just because Eren's squad trained for fighting the Titans doesn't mean they'll actually succeed on the first go. When the squad engages in their first battle, almost all of them die and both Eren and Armin nearly get killed. Eren himself ends up getting Eaten Alive.
- It Can Think: Eren realizes that the Colossal Titan has intelligence when it deliberately smashes the cannons out of the way with its first attack.
- Obfuscating Stupidity: Our introduction to Pixis shows him losing in a chess match against a fat aristocrat who notes that no matter how many times they play Pixis never manages to win. After news of the Trost invasion reaches his ears the aristocrat tries to convince Pixis to stay and protect him by pointing out that he would be no use to the war effort if he can't even beat him at chess. One of Pixis' subordinates spells it out to the aristocrat that, in a real battle, Pixis doesn't need to play down his skills like he does with him.
- Refuge in Audacity: After news of the Titan invasion reaches Pixis' ears he calmly steals the bottle of wine that the aristocrat he was playing chess with was drinking, drinks some itself, compliments its flavour, and then takes it for himself. Before he leaves Pixis even manages some Stealth Insults by telling the aristocrat to enjoy his life of sloth and leisure while he goes off to war.
- The Scream: After Eren is Eaten Alive right in front of his eyes, Armin screams in pure hysteria at the horror he just witnessed.
- Villain: Exit, Stage Left: After kicking open the gate to Trost and having a brief confrontation with Eren, the Colossal Titan decides to leave after its work is done by escaping in a cloud of steam.
- Wham Episode: Eren, the protagonist of the series, is Eaten Alive by one of the Titans.
