Recap / Asura's Wrath E7 "A Father's Duty"

Go To

As Asura climbs his way out of Naraka, he remembers a time when he hunted the Gohma alongside his fellow demigods.

Tropes:

  • Blinded by Rage: Asura is so into the heat of battle that he nearly attacks Augus as he followed the Gohma Crusher he threw before Yasha stops him. While Yasha is exasperated by it, Augus finds his mindless savagery exciting.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: While Augus is more "Amoral" than "Evil", he seems bemused when he realizes that Asura's fighting spirit comes from his love for his family rather than for the sake of the fight like him.
  • Finger Poke of Doom: Augus responds to the massive Gohma Crusher falling towards him by flicking the two-ton beast away.
  • Here We Go Again!: Asura finds himself right back where he started; clinging to an axis mundi in Naraka.
  • Mr. Vice Guy: It is here that establishes the source of Asura's fighting spirit and the wrath that fuels it; he loves his wife and daughter so much, he is ready to kill anything that could try to harm him.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: While Asura was right at home killing scores of Gohma, when he returns home Asura is clearly embarrassed and troubled when his infant daughter starts crying in his arms, afraid that he could hurt her with his overwhelming strength.
Yasha: He almost looks scared of her.
Durga: He just doesn't know what to do when she starts crying.
Yasha: Then he should pacify her.
    Durga: Him?
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: In the flashback, it is established that even before the coup, Asura did not get long with the other Generals, Sergei, Wyzen and Kalrow giving smug, derisive compliments for his fighting skill while he orders them to move out of his way.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: While the present is Asura climbing out of Naraka again, most of the episode is set long before Deus' coup, with Asura, Yasha and Augus hunting Gohma and returning to Durga and an infant Mithra.

Asura [Wrath]

Like the rest of his fellow Generals, Asura was chosen among them for his affinity towards a specific mantra (who coincidentally are analogous to the Seven Deadly Sins), Asura in-particular possessing affinity towards the mantra of wrath. Unlike the other generals, however, it does not corrupt him, choosing to direct his rage and the bloodlust it encourages in him into a zeal for good with a just cause, i.e. decimating threats to a peaceful world he wants for his wife and daughter.

How well does it match the trope?
