Recap / Asura's Wrath E19 "The One Behind the Curtain"

Go To

Olga – unhinged by Deus's death – attempts to kill Mithra in front of Asura. But the Golden Spider appears and kills Olga before taking residence in Mithra's body, sealing her away while revealing his true form; Chakravartin, the Lord of Creation. Chakravartin states that he unleashed the Gohma to test Asura as a worthy inheritor of Gaea. Asura and Yasha attack Chakravartin only to find themselves outmatched and sent falling back to the planet, with Chakravartin proclaiming he will destroy the world and remake it once more.

Tropes:

  • Angel Unaware: Remember that talking spider that Asura would interact with in Naraka? It turns out that he is the one true God of the setting Chakravartin, as well as the source of both mantra and the Gohma.
  • Asshole Victim: It wasn't until Olga tried to slit Mithra's throat did the Golden Spider step in and vaporize her instantly.
The Golden Spider: I do not think so. You shall not destroy my precious vessel.
  • Avenging the Villain: Olga appears and tries killing Mithra to avenge Deus.
Olga: And now you shall feel my pain!
  • Bring It: When Asura tries to fight Chakravartin, he apathetically proclaims "very well. Another trial."
  • Colony Drop: As Chakravartin leaves, his threads of mantra decimate the Karma Fortress, the massive chunks of what's left of it plummeting to Earth.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Chakravartin reveals that everything that has happened in the setting — Shinkoku's civilization discovering mantra and using it to become demigods, the creation of Vlitra and the Gohma, Mithra's Super-Empowering ability — was all his doing to find his successor. When Asura hears this, he is ecstatic to find a new target to annihilate with his still-burning wrath.
  • In Their Own Image: When Asura fails to get Mithra back from him, Chakravartin deems him a failure and decides to destroy Gaea and remake it, just as he has always done, and try again.
  • Powers Do the Fighting: Most of Chakravartin's attacks are just him lobbing balls and beams of pure energy at Asura and Yasha.
  • Rubber Man: Midway through the fight, Chakravartin's many arms stretch in unnatural ways to overwhelm Asura.
  • Secret Test of Character: Chakravartin reveals that Shinkoku's civilization discovering mantra and using it to become demigods, the creation of Vlitra and the Gohma, were all a massive test to find someone who could take the mantle of Gaea's God, a test that Asura has passed. Asura being Asura, all he notices is that Chakravartin is the source of all of his suffering and decides that he is the one he really has to kill.

Chakravartin, the Creator

The omnipotent god that controls the world of Gaea and the true identity of the Golden Spider. He is attempting to find an heir to take his place (as the next god) through the trials that he puts the world through. No one on Gaea is aware of his existence.

How well does it match the trope?
