Elwood City is hit by Hurricane Sadie, and everyone is affected. Arthur is shocked at how some people had to leave their pets behind. Muffy's first floor is flooded, and she and her parents have to temporarily relocate to a shelter. Brain is so horrified at his parents' ice cream shop being destroyed that he has trouble sleeping, and he's taken to a therapist. Being in the army, Ladonna's father is called away to help clear out the damage from the hurricane on the same week as her birthday.

Tropes

  • Actor Allusion: Dr. Paula is voiced by Idina Menzel. At the ice cream shop at the end of the episode, she mentions how she likes things "sweet and frozen", with a wink at the camera.
  • Aside Glance: Dr. Paula winks at the camera after she says she likes sweet and frozen things, as if to lampshade the reference she just made.note 
  • All Is Well That Ends Well: The episode ends with the ice cream shop reopened, the dog Arthur saw on the news adopted by shelter resident Kaylie and Brain - who still has anxiety over the wind - and Dr. Paula go out for smoothies together.
  • Anxiety Dreams: Ladonna has one in which her father won't be around for all the major milestones in her future due to being summoned so frequently, so her family celebrates three birthdays, Christmas and her high school graduation all in one day.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Brain is at first excited there's going to be a hurricane when he sees his anenometer reach speeds of 110 km/h. However, when he sees his family's ice cream shop destroyed, this causes him to develop a phobia of storms as he realizes how strong hurricanes can really be. Not only that, but he left his beloved globe inside the shop too.
  • Big Storm Episode: The episode revolves around a hurricane hitting Elwood City and how each of the kids are affected by it. Muffy's house is flooded and she ends up having to stay in a shelter meeting a new friend whose house was completely destroyed by the storm, Arthur is worried about pets seperated from their owners after the storm and wants to do something about it, Brain develops anxiety and has to see a therapist, and Ladonna is worried her dad will be too busy working after the storm to come home for her birthday.
  • Birthday Episode: A sub-plot to the episode; Ladonna's birthday happens the same week as the events of the hurricane.
  • Brick Joke: One of the first scenes of the episode is of Bud convincing DW he can read people's minds. At the end of the episode, he is still trying to convince her.
  • Forgotten Birthday: Ladonna worries that her father will still be on duty on the day of her birthday and thus be unable to celebrate it with her.
  • Loud Sleeper Gag: At first Muffy can't sleep in the shelter because all the snoring from the other residents is keeping her up.
  • One-Episode Fear: Brain's newly-acquired fear of wind doesn't get brought up for the rest of the show's run.
  • Nervous Wreck: Brain becomes this after the hurricane happens and the family's ice cream shop being destroyed, being anxious about any wind and unable to sleep. He ends up having to see a therapist.
  • Reused Character Design: In the testimonials for Arthur's website, one of the cats is a recolored Nemo from his first appearance in "Francine and the Feline" except with brown fur instead of black.
  • Surprise Party: Ladonna gets a surprise birthday party while helping Buster repair the treehouse. Her dad even manages to pay a quick visit!
  • Telepathy: Discussed. Bud tries to convince DW he can read minds at the start of the episode.
  • There Are No Therapists: Thankfully averted in Elwood City - Brain's pediatrician recommends to his parents to send their son to a therapist to deal with his anxiety.
  • Very Special Episode: This episode shows what damage hurricanes do and how they affect people.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: Ladonna is worried her dad won't be home in time for her birthday, as he has to clean up the damage the hurricane caused.
