Recap / Arrow S 6 E 10 Divided

Go To

After being estranged from Team Arrow, Dinah, Curtis, and Rene decide to start their own team.

  • Artistic License – Gun Safety: When Diggle gets his new chip and it appears to stop his tremors, Ollie (experienced gunman) tosses him an apparently-loaded gun. Diggle (former Army) grabs it out of the air and points it at nothing in particular with his finger on the trigger. In an underground base where any accidental discharge would almost certainly ricochet. But it does look cool.
  • The Atoner: Rene feels terrible about having betrayed Oliver's trust and asks Curtis to delete the evidence Watson has on him so he can retract his statement.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Despite Oliver's efforts, he is unable to capture anyone from Cayden James' cabal or prevent him from claiming Bertinelli's wharf.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: For all his masterplanning, Cayden James lets Oliver go in the end despite having the perfect opportunity to kill him. Even Diaz calls this incredibly stupid.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: The argument between the original Team Arrow and the new recruits is presented this way.
  • Compound Title: With the next episode "We Fall".
  • Continuity Nod: Helena Bertinelli, the Huntress, is mentioned as her cousin Jerry plays a supporting role this episode.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Cayden James falls victim to an ambush two times during the episode, and manages to come out on top both times.
  • Dead Guy on Display: Black Siren plans on doing this to Jerry Bertinelli to make an example.
  • Easily Forgiven: Averted, even after Oliver makes a sincere apology Dinah, Curtis, and Rene are still angry and decide to refuse the invitation to rejoin the team. Even considering this is exactly what Cayden James wants.
  • Enemy Mine: Oliver teams up with Jerry Bertinelli against Cayden James. Unfortunately, it doesn't last and doesn't even succeed.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Cayden James threatens Jerry Bertinelli's daughter to get him to cooperate.
  • Evolving Credits: The logos of Curtis, Rene, and Dinah in the opening title sequence are now colored red instead of green to symbolize their break from Team Arrow.
  • Exact Words: In the end, Cayden James agrees to spare Jerry Bertinelli's daughter for his cooperation...but not the man himself!
  • He's Back!: At the end of the episode, Curtis's latest version of the chip ends up removing Diggle's tremors, and he happily grabs a gun, excited to be back in the field.
  • Honor Before Reason: Oliver refuses to apologize for his behavior that drove Curtis, Dinah, and Rene away. Lampshaded repeatedly by Diggle, especially since this is far from the first time Team Arrow has had trust issues.
  • Hypocrite: Oliver asks Vincent, who usually only targets criminals, why he is working with James. Vincent retorts vigilantes are criminals. This coming from a guy called Vigilante!
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: Since he can't help Oliver in the field, Diggle instead remotely pilots some of Curtis's T-Spheres, blasting enemies with the sphere's lightning attack. Felicity implies he's been practicing on Halo.
  • The Infiltration: When Vincent shows up at the police station, Dinah points out that any cop here can arrest him. He responds that, as far as anyone else knows, he's a Central City cop, whose last assignment was going undercover. There's no evidence to tie him to Vigilante, and even his supposed death can be written off as undercover work.
  • Internal Reveal: Oliver and the rest of Team Arrow finds out about Cayden James' cabal as well as them having the Arrowcave bugged.
  • Last of His Kind: Cayden James calls Jerry Bertinelli this, since all of his relatives are either in jail or dead.
  • Nerves of Steel: Jerry Bertinelli is always calm and collected, even in the face of immediate danger.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Had Oliver swallowed his pride and asked Dinah, Curitis, and Rene for backup in the trap he and the Bertinelli family set to bring Cayden James, the operation would have most likely succeeded.
  • Nothing Personal: After seeing that Oliver is in no position to help him anymore, Jerry Bertinelli reluctantly turns his pistol on him, apologising for it.
  • "Not So Different" Remark:
    • Rene tries to make a comparison between Cayden James and the original Team Arrow, due to both of them spying on people.
    • Diggle brings up to Oliver his past allegiance with the League of Assassins and breach of trust with him personally, arguing that one has to forgive mistakes to move forward. Oliver concedes that point in the end and is willing to forgive Rene, as he acted like a father trying to protect his child, just like himself.
  • Not What I Signed on For: After Oliver gets subdued by Vigilante, Jerry Bertinelli and his men try to get out of this freak show, only to be stopped by Cayden James.
  • Old Flame: It's clear Dinah still has feelings for Vincent, and he's willing to exploit that. He even stops killing criminals, instead scaring them into turning themselves in willingly.
  • Parental Substitute: Thea calls Quentin this.
  • Pet the Dog: Thea brings up this concept in a conversation with Quentin about Black Siren, citing that even Ra's Al Ghul had moments of kindness and in the end was still a villain. In the end, she apologises and concedes that maybe she can be redeemed.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Jerry Bertinelli shows no signs of sadism or other kind of malice, he just sees himself as a businessman and is definitely the lesser evil in comparison to Cayden James.
  • The Reveal: Cayden James has been using the intel he got from the bug in the Bunker to aid Agent Watson's investigation.
  • The Rival: Dinah, Curtis, and Rene are this to Team Arrow now. Nevertheless, Oliver wishes them well.
  • Shout-Out: Jerry Bertinelli tells Oliver to get a flash light signal with his emblem on it so he can be reached easier.
  • Slipped the Ropes: When Dinah cuffs Vincent, he violently rips his hand out of the cuff, hurting it badly, then watching it heal.
  • Start My Own: Rene, Curtis, and Dinah start their own vigilante team after being burned by Oliver. Oliver offers them the best of luck.
  • Unwitting Pawn: The current and former members of Team Arrow are oblivious that them being estranged and divided is exactly what Cayden James wants. Averted for the former at the end, when Felicity pointed out it’s exactly what James wants.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Felicity scorns Rene, Dinah and Curtis for acting as if they spied on them for no reason, when they (or at least two of them) compromised the team.
  • Woman Scorned: Dinah is pissed when she finds out that Vigilante is with Cayden James.
