"Leave the Silver Sight alone - or you might get hurt."

In a field rowed with stacked old cars, Quinn encounters a sternly barking dog. He runs, and finds Vince, the yard’s grey-haired attendant, who seems bemused by Quinn's fear - the guard dog is nowhere in sight.

On a quiet street, Megan searches for 224 - but finds only a fenced yard. From inside, a young girl hurries onto the pavement, and quickly vanishes. From by the fence, the Waif Kid directs Megan to a manhole cover marked "224". He lifts the lid, and drops inside. Reluctantly, Megan follows. In the dark, dripping depths, Megan follows the young girl to a brightly lit, domestically furnished alcove.

Vince tells Quinn of Donna Tilton - during their relationship, Vince successively broke his leg, suffered a car crash, and nearly died in a house fire. His cloud of bad luck lingered...

Meanwhile, in their curiously set dwelling, the Gregories offer Megan refreshment.

While Vince was recovering, he recalls, Donna took a new boyfriend, with whom she died in a car crash. Outside, by the hut, a stacked car creaks. Through the open doorway, they see the car rolling towards them. Each runs to a different side of the hut. The car ploughs into the front wall, which collapses. Vince desperately rails at the relentless malice of the Silver Sight. Quinn asks if Donna kept a fragment of record. On condition of the retrieval of Vince's sketch of Donna, stolen by usurping boyfriend Liang Candle, Vince gives Quinn the record fragment.

Megan delicately probes the unconventional location of the Gregory’s abode. Mr Gregory's mother Eleanor, having made a fortune in the stock market before the age of twenty, suddenly suffered a prolonged bout of misfortune. With most of their riches confiscated, they literally went underground. Megan enquiries about the Silver Sight. Mr Gregor’s joviality instantly drops. He warns of its evil, and orders her out.

To the manhole cover’s ladder, Megan is approached by Jim. He claims not to share his family’s eccentricity, confides a desire to see the sun again, and offers to get the missing record piece for Megan. She agrees to return in a few hours.

Back in Gary’s dorm room, as shown in the last episode, Tucker shows Megan and Andy a photo of the 1937 Midnight Society. Andy and Vange haven’t managed to find any trace of Bruce McGorrill. Quinn arrives, and sees the 1937 photo. On being shown which one is Donna Tilton, he excitedly takes the photo, and runs back out.

At the General’s house, Quinn knocks on the door. It suddenly swings open. The Waif Kid glides swiftly into view; beckons him inside, and discreetly vanishes. As shown in the last episode, Quinn runs into Tucker, and excitedly takes the framed sketch of Donna Tilton. He opens the front door, and finds himself faced with the Waif Kid, who warns Quinn that if he persists, he may end up looking like the picture. Quinn looks at it. Before his eyes, the charcoal etchings twist and flow to rearrange in another image: that of a skull.

Megan climbs back down into the sewer. At the domestically furnished region, the Gregories are absent. In his wheelchair, searching through a draw, she finds General Liang Candle. From his wheelchair, he swiftly rises to a stand, and gives chase, and gives him the slip. She emerges from behind a crate, and hears a young voice call for help. On a railway track, she finds the Waif Kid with his foot caught between the railings. As Megan struggles to free his foot, the headlamp of a train appears in the tunnel ahead. With the train almost upon him, the kid, if such he is, no longer seems afraid. He warns Megan away from the Silver Sight. With that, he, and the train, dematerialise.

Back at the Gregories’, Megan finds a brown envelope. Inside, Megan finds another piece of broken record. On what remains of its label, she reads a hand-printed message: "It's a race that has no winners."

On reception of his sketch of Donna, Vince hands Quinn the record piece, and solemnly gives him a final caution against the Silver Sight. On the record fragment’s section of label, Quinn reads a hand-printed message: "Many ups and downs."

This episode provides examples of:

  • Angry Guard Dog: In the yard, Quinn is chased by an irate dog - which then morphs into the Waif Kid.
  • Anomalous Art: The sketch of Donna Tilton briefly morphs into that of a skeleton.
  • Butt-Monkey: Much to her chagrin, Megan’s part in the search keeps picking up unsavoury odours.
  • Creepy Child: The Waif Kid ups his ante, with phantasms of an Angry Guard Dog, a scarily animate drawing, and a train.
  • Curse: Vince reveals contact with the Silver Sight to have forced him into a car accident, started a fire in his house, and with another car accident, killed girlfriend Donna.
  • Ghost Train: Megan finds herself caught on a subway track, and approached by a train - which, just before impact, fades away.
  • Railroad Tracks of Doom: A young boy’s foot gets stuck in a railtrack, at which point a train approaches. However, both it, and he, dematerialise - it’s a phantasm conjured by the Waif Kid.
  • The Lost Lenore: Vince’s girlfriend Donna was killed in a car crash.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Vince longs to reclaim a sketch he made of Donna.
