Recap / Archer S 8 E 4 Ladyfingers

Go To

While Archer tries obtaining a finger as part of a ransom, Krieger sets to work on Dutch Dylan.

  • Adaptational Heroism: Krieger, of all people. While still a mad scientist who had Nazi ties, here he's a Jewish Scientist who deliberately trolled the Nazis with a Robo-Soldier program he sabotaged by killing off their human candidates and claiming they died of systemic shock so they would waste resources, thinking his only success was his cat. It wasn't.
  • All for Nothing: After all the hassle to obtain a finger from a corpse, Cecil just decides that he doesn't need to see it, as he trusts Archer to have gone through with it.
  • All Germans Are Nazis: Double Subverted. Dr. Krieger turns out to not only not be a Nazi, but to be a Jew working under a fake identity in order to sabotage Nazi Superscience and waste resources. The nurse who loved him, however, plays the trope straight — she's disgusted to find out his true identity, and would rather die at the hands of the Russians than join him. She instead dies to his dogs.
  • Bigger Is Better: Both Archer and Poovey are impressed at the size of Cyril's penis, suggesting this.
  • Black Comedy Burst: Krieger having the cyborg dogs maul the nurse to death isn't too beyond the norm for the series, but it manages to stand out by being the punchline to a three minute scene that's otherwise played completely straight.
  • The Bus Came Back: Cecil (Vander)Tunt! Once again voiced by Eugene Mirman.
  • Finger in the Mail: The main plot of this episode involves providing a finger as proof of Charlotte's capture. Archer and Cyril race to a morgue to retrieve one from a cadaver and pass it off as hers.
  • Jerkass: Archer picks up a homeless person, promises to take him to the bus stop, then dumps him outside of the Vandertunt mansion.
    • Cecil. See Troll and All for Nothing. Plus, there's his overall lack of concern for Charlotte's (Cheryl's) well being.
  • Only Sane Man: Surprisingly enough, Archer, though aside from assuring Cheryl (Charlotte) kept her finger it didn't accomplish much.
  • Running Gag: "What is this, National Hot Dog Day?"
  • Shout-Out: The Vandertunt patriarch being confined to a wheelchair in a sweltering orchid house is a nod to classic Noir The Big Sleep.
  • Tempting Fate: Mother tells Archer to bring a finger to the Vandertunt manor as proof they are holding Charlotte, but he refuses. When Cecil informs of two parties calling for ransom, he demands Archer bring physical proof in the form of said finger.
  • Troll: Cecil tells an obviously uncomfortable Archer he wants to see Cheryl (Charlotte) with 7 fingers.... and two thumbs.
  • Unwilling Roboticisation: Dutch is completely against the robot parts until he wakes up post-procedure... and has gone insane like his counterpart Barry anyway.
