Go To

Archer and Lana make a tricky handoff while the rest of the gang hears the best voicemail ever.

Tropes

  • Big Damn Heroes: After they figure out that they weren’t actually listening to a voicemail prank, the other members of the agency come to Archer and Lana’s aid, turning up just at the right moment.
  • Blatant Lies: They try to hide their involvement in the theft of the “Longwater” disk to both Veronica Deane and Alan Shapiro, and they are hilariously bad at it, but Shapiro only finds out when Archer lets it slip towards the end of the episode (thinking that Shapiro had already figured it out, when in reality what he had figured out was that they used to be spies).
  • Catchphrase: “Phrasing” makes its triumphant return.
  • Cool People Rebel Against Authority: Archer convinces Lana to continue the job without contacting Cyril or Malory, as Cyril threatened to take her pay if she left early. In Archer's words, Cyril made her "his giant bitch" in front of the rest of the group that morning.
  • Crying Wolf: Played for Laughs, of course. Due to Archer’s long history of voicemail pranks, Malory refuses to call him. When she finally does, the group initially assumes the fight going on over the phone is yet another elaborate voicemail prank. They soon realize some time after that it was all real, much to Malory's horror.
  • Easily Forgiven: Shapiro says he will recommend the Figgis Agency to his other clients, despite the fact that they were responsible for stealing the Longwater disk in the first place (as well as poisoning his dogs). Of course, the fact that they helped retrieve it when they realized their mistake probably helped.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: Archer takes out the bikers while completely naked.
  • Immediate Sequel: Somewhat unusually for this series, this episode picks up exactly where the previous one left off. In the past this generally only happened with multi-part stories or at a few points during the Archer Vice arc.
  • Leather Man: Ray dresses up as one when dealing with the motorcycle gang.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: We don’t actually get to see Archer fighting a half-dozen or so bikers on the outside. We hear it, but we don’t see it.
  • Overly Long Gag: The “voicemail”. It lasts about a minute and a half.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: The bikers make several anti-Semitic comments towards Shapiro.
  • Raging Stiffie: Archer pops a very audible boner when Veronica Dean merely touches his arm. Also, Krieger has one when he doesn't want to get up during a meeting.
  • The Unreveal: We still don’t find out what was on the “Longwater” disk, or who was blackmailing Veronica Deane. Of course, it’s possible and indeed likely that these may be revealed in later episodes.
  • Toilet Humor: Shapiro describes how his dogs were poisoned, which resulted in severe diarrhea. Aside from the excruciating detail of how the doggie treats affected them, making an epic mess of the house, the dogs are shown beforehand wearing diapers.
  • What Could Have Been: In-Universe. Pam believes she and her friends have just heard "the best voicemail ever" when attempting to call Archer. Cut to the aftermath of Archer's epic fight, he says to himself "it could have been", implying he would have liked to set this up in hindsight.
