Archer gets bitten in the crotch by a snake and has a near-death experience where he sees the man who may be his long-lost father.
This episode provides examples of:
- Innocuously Important Episode: Being on the receiving end of Cheryl's devastating "The Reason You Suck" Speech is what eventually leads to Lana's decision to have a baby.
- It's a Wonderful Plot: A minor variant. How Archer's life might have played out if aspects of his childhood had gone differently are explored in his Near-Death Experience.
- Jerkass Has a Point:
- Archer insults Ray for injuring himself while trying to lift the Jeep, but has a point that it was mostly Ray's own fault (Ray has bionic legs but no other augmentation and didn't take advantage of that when lifting). Not to mention this leaves Cyril as the only one able to move since Archer is dying of a snakebite.
- Cheryl rips Lana a new one in a brutal way, (although being, well, Cheryl, she's not even aware that she's speaking out loud) essentially calling Lana a self-righteous hypocrite who won't follow through on the principles that she claims to have because she's consumed by her ambitions of running ISIS someday. Lana's reaction seems to show that she realizes that Cheryl is right.
- Meaningful Name: The words bread, Friday, and snake are all named after the dictator's dog, Gurpgork. It took several tries for Cyril and Ray to provide the right one to explain how they need an antidote for Archer.
- Never My Fault: Archer doesn't hold himself accountable of getting the car trapped in sand, and he remains extremely uncooperative until he suffers from a snake bite.
- Resign in Protest: Lana is quick to fall into ranting about how destructive Archer, Ray, and Cyril's mission is to the environment. She gets shut down when Cheryl points out that if Lana cared anywhere near as much as she claims, she'd resign to protest Malory taking on such missions, but the fact that Lana won't do that shows that Lana cares much more about her hopes of someday running ISIS than the environment.Cheryl: Please, if you really cared, you'd resign, but there's no way you ever will, because you're just counting the days until, her face bloated and yellow from liver failure, she calls you to her death bed and, in a croaky whisper, explains that Mr. Archer is totally incompetent and that you, the long-suffering Lana Kane, are the only one qualified to run ISIS and you weep shameful tears because you know this terrible place is the only true love you will ever know.
[Beat]
Lana: [hurt and trying to hide it] Excuse me. [leaves the room]
Pam: Daaaaaamn!
Cheryl: What?...oh my God, was I talking? - Suck Out the Poison: Archer tries to convince both Ray and Cyril to do this to his snakebite. Cyril correctly points out that this method doesn't actually work. Archer only lets it go when Cyril points out that the venom is already in his blood.
- The Unreveal: Archer finds out who his real father is while having a Near-Death Experience, but forgets before he can tell anybody.
- With Catlike Tread: Malory and Pam discuss in front of Lana that she has a habit of "clomping" all over the place (walking very loudly). Pam believes Lana's neighbors below her apartment must hate her for that.
