- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Schnitzel and Floyd are parodies of Siegfried and Roy. At the end, the Warners see insult comic Ron Pickles, a parody of Don Rickles.
The Brain's Apprentice contains examples of:
- Mime and Music-Only Cartoon: There is no dialogue, except for the garbled gibberish of reporter Wolf Spritzer on the television.
- Near-Villain Victory: Pinky unleashes Brain's army of robots, who force the President to sign a document that would enable Brain to be the world's leader. When Brain shuts down his machine despite Pinky's protests, he ends up foiling his own plan.
- Public Domain Soundtrack: This short is set to the music of Paul Dukas' symphonic tone poem L'apprenti sorcier (aka "The Sorcerers Apprentice").
