Ok, so Marcy's achieved a bit more from her time in Amphibia than Anne has.

King Andrias sends Marcy a puzzlegram that sends her, Anne, and Spring on a scavenger hunt through Newtopia, but seeing what Marcy has accomplished leaves Anne feeling inadequate.

    Full Recap
TBA...

Tropes:

  • Absurdly Spacious Sewer: The sewers under Newtopia are quite large, and remarkably clean for sewers. Justified as Marcy has renovated them, seemingly invoking the trope in the process.
  • Actor Allusion: This isn't the first time that a character played by Brenda Song felt inadequate compared to her smarter friend.
  • Always Someone Better: Anne feels bad that she's not as smart as Marcy, and that being around her makes her feel dumb. Marcy, on the other hand, is jealous of how easily Anne can make friends, something she apparently has trouble with.
  • Artistic License – Biology: The Sewer Gator has interlocking teeth like a crocodile, instead of an overbite like a real alligator.
  • Bat Deduction: Anne's attempt to "fake it 'til you make it" and pretend to be smart consists of making an absurd chain of logic that leads her to the sewers and almost results in the group being eaten by a Sewer Gator. She is, needless to say, completely wrong.
  • Big Eater: Hop Pop managed to eat roughly a thousand bug burgers in one afternoon just to receive a free suit of armor.
  • Binomium ridiculus: Marcy makes up scientific names for things she draws into her journal labeling Polly "Tadeus Pollous", a beetle burger "Biggus Burgerus", and Anne's "Strawalrus" impression "Strawaus Walrus".
  • Call-Back: Anne saves a caterpillar like Domino 2 and warns the little girl not to let it grow up. She also references solving a puzzle dungeon in "Family Shrub."
  • Cape Snag: While trying to escape the Sewer Gator, it tries to stop them by grabbing Marcy’s cape with his mouth, but she is quickly able to remove it, losing it for the rest of the episode.
  • Cat Up a Tree: Anne saves a girl's pet that has climbed up a coral tree.
  • Chain of People: This is done to rescue Marcy, Anne, and Sprig from the Sewer Gator.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: All the people Anne helps out or befriends on the way end up helping rescue Anne, Sprig, and Marcy from the sewers.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Marcy prepares to guess the price of the beetle burgers, she's shown to have drawn Anne's "Strawalrus" impression into her journal in seconds.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Polly says that the family would be set for life if Marcy was stuck with them instead of Anne, unknowingly hurting her feelings. Luckily, Hop Pop calls her out for that.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Hop Pop notes that Anne "can't go ten minutes without getting herself into trouble." Ten minutes is almost the length of a typical episode.
  • Luminescent Blush: As Marcy admits to Anne she's better at connecting with people, she looks away with a small blush dusting her cheeks.
  • Magnetic Hero: Anne is easily able to befriend others, to the point where three people she talked to for a few minutes are fully willing to rush in and risk their lives to save Anne from the Sewer Gator.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Anne releases the Sewer Gator by accident when she's fumbling around trying to solve the final puzzle.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Despite the fact that it's trying to eat them, the sewer gator is very un-vicious unlike practically every other predator shown in Amphibia. It acts less like a ravenous beast and more like someone trying to get a particularly tasty snack.
  • Oh, Crap!: Polly lets out a quiet "Oh, no" when Hop Pop is lured in by the rewards program of the burger joint.
  • One-Man Industrial Revolution: Marcy has integrated some modern technology into Newtopia, including an efficient sewer system and helped build at least one bridge.
  • Saying Too Much: When defending Anne from a scolding Hop Pop, Sprig blurts out that she was only doing it because she feels dumb compared to Marcy. Anne angrily tells Sprig to shut up, but it’s too late and Marcy heard everything he just said.
  • Sequel Hook: Things end with Anne and the Plantars about to meet the King of Newtopia, which leads into the next episode.
  • Sewer Gator: Marcy added gators to Newtopia's sewer system to eat the trash, as they'll eat almost anything despite preferring meat.
