The American Dragon shouldn't accept bribes?
Tell that to the pile of gold coins in my pocket.

When Jake starts working for a semi-shady leprechaun company, he gets carried away with the "bling-bling" lifestyle that his newfound wealth grants him... until his new employer has him conduct business with the Huntsclan that could have deadly consequences.

  • Armor-Piercing Response: Occurs when Jake confronts Brocamus about his doing business with the Huntsman.
Jake: You sold out to the Huntsman! How could you do that?!
Brocamus: (soberly) Same reason you did: for the gold, o' course.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Jake and Trixie quickly get sick of Spud's obsession with the word "spelunking".
Spud: That was so scary. (snickers) Spelunking.
Jake and Trixie: SHUT. UP. SPUD.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: At the end of the episode, the Huntsman and Rose are last seen still in the midst of the fight against Jake's bought army while Jake, Lao-Shi, Fu Dog, Trixie, and Spud escape with the Aztec Skull.
  • Booby Trap: Jake is tasked to retrieve an antique box from a hobgoblin cave rigged with the things.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Brad steals Jake's "Aw, man!" after he sees Jake pull up to the school on a gold moped and decked out in gold attire.
  • Cheap Gold Coins: Averted. Leprechaun gold is worth even more than normal gold as it has been enchanted with magical properties. Even when dealing with non-magical beings, the value of the coins is still extremely high thanks to their material and craftsmanship.
  • Fictional Currency: The leprechaun gold coins.
  • Foreshadowing: Near the beginning of the episode, a missing Aztec Skull is mentioned. Sure enough, Brocamus sends Jake out to retrieve an item that turns out to be the skull, which the buyer—who turns out to be the Huntsman—is coming to meet him for.
  • Greed: The main theme of the episode. Jake becomes a victim to it but comes to realize that it comes at a high price. Even Lao Shi makes it clear to Jake that too often have men done crazy things in pursuit of Leprechaun gold.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: When Jake starts getting paid large amounts of gold by the leprechauns, he refashions his entire style to be gold-themed.
  • Guile Hero: Jake manages to outwit the giant by playing on his stupidity regarding object-permanence. With all the leprechauns having fled, Jake points out that there are no leprechauns around, ergo the giant has nobody to be mad at.
  • Hollywood Density: Jake has a cauldron full of gold shoved into his arms and barely reacts to it, despite it likely weighing over a hundred pounds at the minimum. Possibly justified in that Jake has dragon strength, and the gold could be magically enchanted to weigh less.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Jake starts to learn the lesson of the episode after his meeting with the Huntsman.
Spud: I guess some people just can't control themselves when it comes to gold.
    Trixie: (glares at Spud) Mm?
Spud: What? I think I've been very reasonable with my purchase...s.
Trixie: (smacks Spud in the behind with her trowel, causing a clanging noise)
Spud: What? The golden undies came with the golden socks! It was a matching set!
  • Inherently Funny Words: Spud thinks the word "spelunking" is one of these.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The entire Huntsclan squad—including Rose—has this reaction when Jake uses all his leprechaun gold to pay his army of magical creatures to fight the clan.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: When Jake angrily demands to know why Brocamus would (if unwittingly) betray all magical creatures by selling the Huntsclan an Aztec Skull, he soberly tells our hero: "Same reason you did: for the gold, o' course." Although he has been bribing and stringing along Jake with the promise of gold, Brocamus is no more in control of his own greed than the American Dragon.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Jake's reaction when he finds out he's just delivered an Aztec Skull to the Huntsman says it all.
    • Even Brocamus has this reaction when Jake mentions the item he so sent the latter to deliver to the Huntsclan (the Aztec Skull) could wipe out all magical creatures.
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: More or less Jake's reaction to Brocamus when the leprechaun comes crawling back with a "gift" to win over the American Dragon's services once again.
Jake: Sorry, but the American Dragon isn't for sale.
  • Super Cell Reception: When they're in the cave, Jake calls Brocamus on his cellphone with no reception issues. Spud takes note of this.
Spud: Your cellphone gets four bars at the bottom of a hobgoblin treasure cave?! Your reception is, like, magic!
  • The Stinger: Spud explains more about Jake's job as a hydrant attendant, only to use it as an excuse to keep on saying "spelunking".
