Recap / American Dad S 3 E 10 Bush Comes To Dinner

Go To

Stan wins an essay contest and meets President George W. Bush.

Tropes:

  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Duper wins the essay contest, but it's later found that he plagiarized from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Roger determines that Osama bin Laden is working at an investment firm in Langley Falls and tracks down his home address, only to find a normal guy lives there. But at the end of the episode, it's revealed that Roger was right.
  • Missed Him by That Much: Osama bin Laden had recently moved out of the address that Roger believed he was living at.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Bush says this of Hayley, saying that he was stinking drunk during his teenage years and still became President.
  • Organ Theft: Roger attempted to steal one of Steve's kidneys and planned to sell it on the black market and use the money to buy Dollywood, a theme park named and themed after Dolly Parton. However, Steve woke up before he could and pointed out that Roger wouldn't get that much for a kidney. Roger gave up on the idea then.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Osama bin Laden is not recognized at the investment firm where he works.
  • Room Full of Crazy: Lampshaded. Roger presents Steve with supposed evidence that Osama bin Laden is living in Langley Falls, which is taken entirely from newspapers and magazines. Steve remarks "Well, you did use an awful lot of string."
  • Take That!: To George W. Bush, though not nearly as rough as you might expect. The three creators of American Dad conceptualized the show as disgust from Bush winning re-election in 2004. So it's a bit surprising Bush is actually portrayed sympathetically as someone forced into politics, is over his head, and actually helps Stan and Hayley reconcile.
