Stan is instructed to play Overwatch for a mission to infiltrate North Korea, while Steve wants to spend more time with him. Meanwhile, the rest of the family get their heads stuck in the bannister.

Tropes:

  • Apocalypse Wow: Due to Stan's failed mission, North Korea launches a first strike and America retaliates, destroying the world.
  • The Cameo: Bill Nye briefly appears to explain why Steve lost his mind when Stan decided to spend time with him in the new timeline.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Memphis Stormfront announces the impending nuclear winter with the same energy as he gives any other weather report.
  • Downer Ending: Not only does Stan end up destroying the world, but a billion years later, an advanced alien race recreates the planet. In this new timeline, Stan decides to spend more time with Steve rather than going to work, averting the nuclear war, but Steve is so unnerved by this that he goes insane trying to prove that the world is actually a simulation.
  • Epic Fail:
    • Jeff, Hayley, Francine, and Roger all get stuck in the staircase bars. Decades later (in the revised timeline), they're still stuck.
    • Due to Stan's stupidity (missing his target at the video game tournament), Earth ends up falling into extinction. It takes one billion years for Earth to get recreated and return to square one again.
  • Fling a Light into the Future: Both America and China launch cultural pods into space, but they collide and the only surviving artifact is a scoop of Chinese ice cream. A billion years later, an alien race recovers it and their emperor likes it so much that he has a replica of Earth 3-D printed so that he can get more.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Because Stan misfired his weapon at the video game tournament, Earth gets destroyed and takes one billion years to get replicated.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Langely Falls is nuked while Jeff is apologizing to Tuttle.
  • Lethally Stupid: Stan gets Earth terminated simply from missing his target at the video game tournament.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: After Earth is recreated, Stan declines to go on the mission and chooses to spend more time with Steve. Unfortunately, Steve is so used to his dad brushing him aside that he cannot fathom him wanting to spend more time with him, and becomes convinced that the world is actually a simulation.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Stan and his crew managed to fool the people in China with their "disguises" as teenagers, despite clearly being full-grown.
  • Skewed Priorities: Even as the world is being destroyed, Stan cannot bring himself to say something comforting to Steve, using his last words to say that he's thinking of trying MeUndies.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: No one in the tournament audience pays any mind to Stan setting up a sniper rifle while playing in the finals.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Bullock singles out Stan for his stupidity in failing the mission, hence creating an inevitable nuclear war.
Bullock: Smith, you idiot! You blew the mission!
Stan: At least I'm not blowing my relationship with my son.
Bullock: You blew everyone's relationship with everyone's son. General Kim launched a nuclear attack, and we're retaliating. Mutually assured destruction!
Stan: Mutually assured destruction? Wasn't that supposed to prevent nuclear war?
Bullock: No! That was you with the video game!
