Recap / American Dad! S14E2 "Fight and Flight"

Go To

Stan tries to help Steve with a project about Charles Lindbergh. Meanwhile, Klaus and Hayley become convinced that a neighbor is stealing their packages.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: After all the hell they put their neighbor through, Hayley realizes she might not have even ordered the Garfield welcome mat and Jeff actually finds Klaus's shoes in the bush.
  • And I Must Scream: Francine gets trapped by Candyman.
  • Asshole Victim: During the hostage situation, Klaus and Hayley find a man tied up in the closet, but assume he was just a guest of their neighbor. As they walk away, a subtitle reveals that the man was actually a murderer and no one the audience should feel sorry for.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Stan watches from the ground as Steve tries to land the plane. It appears to level out and then slams right into the ground. Stan was even leaning so that it appeared the plane was still level.
  • Drugs Causing Slow-Motion: Steve freaks out over getting his first failing grade. His friends try to help by giving him a massive dose of Zoloft, but all this accomplishes is giving him a deeper voice and make him freak out incredibly slowly.
  • Executive Meddling: In-Universe: Stan takes full control of Steve's history project, hiring Vin Diesel to star in it, using the CIA's soundstage to film it, and changing the project from a historically accurate presentation to an inaccurate action film. This does not make Steve happy, to say the least.
  • Freak Out: Steve has one of his screaming fits when he gets his first F grade. Barry tries to calm him down by force feeding him Zoloft pills.
  • "I Want" Song: Klaus sings a song about the clothes he'll wear once he has a body again, and yells at Hayley for interrupting him.
  • Impossibly Tacky Clothes: The outfit Klaus wants to wear once he has a body is one that even a college frat boy would describe as gaudy.
  • Noodle Incident: Somehow, the neighbor found and trapped a murderer and is apparently torturing him, but no other information is given.
  • Real After All: Francine's greatest fear is that Candyman will become real, but Stan assures her that it was just a movie. And then she gets trapped by Candyman.
