Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder: Archie's justification for his brief encounter with Denise. Edith had earned longer hours as an aide at the Sunshine Home and often was scheduled to work nights, when Archie was home, and he just wanted her home to cook supper and get him his beer.
Story Arc: In syndication, this is seen as a three-part episode. (Originally, the episode aired as a 60-minute show for the first part, and the following week as a 30 minuter.)
Sympathetic Adulterer: By Season 7, much of the fanbase was sympathizing with Archie, even when he didn't exactly deserve it. The scene where Edith calls him on his adultery and angrily walks out, and Archie tearfully realizes he really eff-ed up, is one of those times.
Tears of Remorse: For one of the few times in the entire run, Archie actually cries real tears ... this time, when he realizes Edith has left him and it will take more than a simple "I'm sorry" to get her back.
