Tropes associated with this episode:

  • Characterization Marches On: By the late fall of 1972, viewers were beginning to love and appreciate the character of Archie Bunker, and to an extent his characterization had softened from that first episode just 22 months earlier. In this episode, presumably set in November 1970 (two months before the show proper debuted), Archie is not only his early-series reactionary self ... he's even more so. Especially since Uncle Cashmir is someone who drives Archie's blood pressure due north.
  • Daddy's Girl: Despite his being uneasy about the wedding and upset that she's marrying someone he disapproves, Archie does show he still loves Gloria and is willing to stand by her, and that he is bound by his promise made years earlier "... that anything you wanted was OK by me. I just wanted you to know you're still my Little Goil, and you always will be."
  • Whole Episode Flashback: About 90 percent of the episode has the family reminiscing over Mike and Gloria's wedding and how it nearly didn't happen.
