Recap / All Hail King Julien S 06 E 02 Spin Cycle

Go To

When Xixi uses her news show to blame Timo for polluting the local watering hole (even though he did it on Julien's orders), Julien decides to take advantage of the media to spin him and the kingdom in a positive light.

Meanwhile, Ted, tired of not being taken seriously, undergoes a procedure to turn him permanently into his alter-ego Snake.

Tropes:

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Dorothy finds Snake attractive and actively pressures Ted into having himself changed into Snake.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Dorothy quickly realizes Snake isn't a good person to have around 24/7
  • Callback:
    • As with the previous episode, the main plot point of this episode is dealing with the fallout of the war with Koto. In this case, all the garbage.
    • A shortage of mangoes is shown to be another problem caused tangentially by the war, but explicitly because of Julienne and Barty's mango allowance.
  • Continuity Nod: When Julien gets the crowd to go away early in the episode, one of the lemurs can be heard offhandedly remarking "I thought he died", referencing Julien's martyr stunt in the previous episode, and Julien's assertion that after a while, nobody is really going to care that he's not actually dead.
  • Did You Get a New Haircut?: Julien asks this of Mort, who is glowing green from bathing in the polluted waterhole.
  • Foreshadowing: A mango shortage and Julienne and Barty's mango allowance are both acknowledged, hinting at the fact that they will soon be coming back to check up on that.
  • The Man in the Mirror Talks Back: As Ted is brushing his teeth, Snake appears in the mirror to remind him that he's still inside.
  • Polluted Wasteland: Julien has Timo take care of all the trash that came as a result of the war with Koto, and he does so by pumping it all into the local watering hole, turning it into a toxic mess. Timo doesn't really have any way to deal with the issue besides displacing it, so even in the end all the garbage ends up going instead into the open ocean.
  • Propaganda Machine: Julien turns Xixi's news show into this, as he tells her to say nice things about him.
  • Take That!: The episode as a whole is a criticism of Fox News.
