Recap / Alfred J Kwak S 2 E 10 Michael Duckson

Go To

Winnie has developed a crush on the popular pop star Michael Duckson, to Alfred's jealousy. When they are invited to a dinner after the concert, Duckson tries to make moves on Winnie.

Tropes:

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
    • The musical notes flowing out of Alfred's chimney and spooking Henk. Latåter the notes break the door off it's hinges and sweep Henk and the frogs away like strong water current or something.
    • The moon suddendly has a smiling face after Alfred and Winnie kiss.
  • Broken Pedestal: After Duckson has spent the dinner flirting with Winnie and trying to get her into bed, his wife whose existence Winnie wasn't aware of, suddendly shows up. After learning that Duckson is a liar and a cheater, Winnie leaves.
  • Brown Note: In at least the finnish dub, Henk claims that Alfred's piano playing has been giving him diarrhea.
  • Call-Back: When Henk opens his television, the first thing it shows is the same western he watched in episode 33.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Alfred's way of dealing with Winnie's celebrity crush in front of her consists largely of this.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Winnie has a weird reaction when she daydreams about Michael Duckson in the beginning, and also later at the concert.
  • First Kiss: Alfred and Winnie's first kiss at the end (it's unknown if it's Winnie's first, but Alfred hasn't kissed anybody yet).
  • Freak Out: Alfred seems to have a brief one when Henk tells him he's just jealous to Michael Duckson. He gets crazy eyes, spins in his chair, and laughes hysterically. It's immediately followed by a time skip so it's unclear if it was an one-time case of it it continued immediately or later.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus:
    • A black duck boy seen when people are taking their seats looks exactly like Tom, just in differently colored clothes.
    • The yellow and white rabbit seen at the stadium looks very much like and possibly is an older Snel.
    • You can see two of Stoppel's/the navy's identical sailors, and a third sailor who seems to be a different species, in the same frames as the maybe-Snel after the audience has sat down.
    • The pink budgie with purple hair and a heart-pinned beret who sits in front of Winnie is the National Crows' Party's receptionist from episode 22.
  • Furry Confusion: There are non-anthropomorphixc frogs in this episode, despite the presence of the anthropomorphized and clothes-wearing general Brüll and king Franz's unnamed minister who went into exile with him. While the non-anthropomorhized frogs talk, it's unclear if it's real talk or in-universe version of Animal Talk.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Alfred's expressions and tone show shades of this the first time Winnie gushes about Michael Duckson. This is paranoid and unreasonable, until possibly when Winnie starts getting weird reactions at the concert, and definitely once Duckson starts flirting with Winnie and Winnie goes along. Before that, Alfred's behaviour was pretty unjustified.
  • Imagine Spot:
    • The episode opens with Winnie daydreaming about pop star Michael Duckson.
    • While Winnie is in the store, Alfred starts mockingly imitating Duckson and has annimagine spot where he turns into Duckson.
  • The "I Love You" Stigma: Winnie doesn't say she loves Alfred, she says she "likes" him.
  • Laughing Mad: Alfred has a brief one (combined with suddendly starting to spin in his chair) when Henk confronts him with the fact he only bought the piano out of jealously.
  • Love Bubbles: In her daydream in the beginning, Winnie has pink and orange bubbles as her background.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Winnie fails to notice Alfred's fairly obvious feelings whenever Michael Duckson comes up, while Alfred fails to state them clearly enough for her, instead first trying to one-up Duckson and then just quietly going along with Winnie. In the bus and when walking to the stadium he even acts in his normal way (as opposed to his weird behavior over the month), and lies when Winnie asks if something is bothering him while they're in the bus.
  • Suckiness Is Painful: If Henk's reaction to Alfred's piano playing is anything to go by.
  • Technicolor Eyes: Michael Duckson's irises look purple.
  • Tranquil Fury: Alfed is clearly angry at several points, but keeps a lid on it. Even when he at one point reddens with anger, he mostly retains his normal tone and stands in place.
  • Your Size May Vary: Henk looks abnormally big when he and Alfred are walking/standing together in the scene where they walk down a road.
