Go To

Continues from De Poolster (The Southern Cross)

At the South Pole, professor Von Paljas is trying to communicate with the whales so he could warn them about the whalers. Alfred and Henk get into a fight with the crew of a whaling ship, but the invention of the professor proves useful.

Tropes:

  • Awesome, but Impractical: The whaler captain's harpoon peg leg ruins the floor, goes through it, and gets stuck.
  • Indy Ploy: Alfred boards the whaling ship with no plan, deciding to wing it as he goes along.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Hannibal isn't very evil to begin with, but he's revolted when Rokodil tries to kill the whale and drown the fishermen and their families who are standing on it's back.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: It's just Alfred and Henk who laugh, but they're also the only people present at the ending scene so it propably still counts.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When the whale blocks the harbor, Rokodil loses it and tries to murder everybody. Once the automaton thwarts him, he rages at the computer.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: What happened to the whalers in the lifeboat? Did Alfed and Von Paljas pick them up, or were they left to die in the arctic? What about the many crewmembers who weren't shown to be on the lifeboat? Did they freeze and drown?
  • Epilogue Letter: The episode and the fishing arc are concluded by Alfred reading Stoppel's letter.
  • Meaningful Name: The whaling ship's captain is named Ahab.
  • WTH Codtuming Department: Why are certain crewmembers of the whaling ship dressed like that in the freaking South Pole.
