Recap / Aladdin S 2 E 47 The Way We War

Go To

Aladdin returns to find Agrabah and Odiferous at war, the latter accusing the former of stealing one of their sacred relics. Stranger still, the Sultan has appointed Nefir Hasenuf as his military advisor, spending a fortune on weapons to wage the war. Aladdin must investigate to find out the true cause of the war - and wherever, as he suspects, Nefir is behind it all.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: The normally kind, kooky Genie flips his lid when both Aladdin and Uncouthma seem to have been killed by Nefir's solar ray, swelling to Kaiju proportions and demanding a ceasefire. Both sides, horrified at both the accident and the sight of a furious genie, immediately comply.
  • Cassandra Truth: Nobody believes Aladdin when he says not to trust Nefir, even though he’s already met the imp once and knows what he’s like. Sure enough, Aladdin is validated when he discovers Nefir playing both sides to sell arms.
  • Fighting Your Friend: Uncouthma attacks Aladdin when he finds him invading the Odiferan's camp, fully believing that Aladdin was behind the theft of their sacred relic. Aladdin refuses to fight him, however, insisting that he is still Uncouthma's friend no matter what happens. this is enough for the soft-hearted Uncouthma to stop attacking him.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Nefir is soon discovered as the true architect of the war, having stolen Odiferous' sacred relic himself, and is forced to pay back all the money he took selling weapons to both sides.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Literally everyone on both sides Genie loses his temper and bellows for a ceasefire.
  • Ominous Clouds: Genie's fury at seeing Aladdin being seemingly killed causes dark storm clouds to gather over Agrabah.
  • Rage Breaking Point: When it looks like Nefir’s superweapon has killed both Aladdin and Uncouthma, Genie finally loses his temper:
"You people and your stupid war! You've pushed me too far! You don't want to see what happens when you push a genie TOO FAR! I call a ceasefire... NOOOOOOOOOOOW!"
  • War for Fun and Profit: Nefir set up the war between Agrabah and Odiferous by stealing one of the latter's sacred relics, allowing him to profit by selling weapons to both sides.
  • War Is Hell: Nobody is happy that Agrabah is going to war with Odiferous, their supposed ally, with characters from both sides expressing confusion and regret at the fighting. It reaches a head when Nefir's solar laser seemingly kills both Aladdin and Uncouthma, making Genie hit his Rage Breaking Point and demand a ceasefire from both sides.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: The last weapon Nefir sells to the Sultan is a giant tower with a solar-focusing crystal at the top, firing a massive beam of solar energy at targets.
  • You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry!: Genie warns everybody that they don’t want to see what happens when a genie is pushed too far. Considering the sky darkens and thunder rumbles as he yells for a ceasefire... yeah, we do not.
