Retsuko has hatched a plan to break herself out of her job.
Retsuko has been dressed down for her backtalk to Tsubone, and has hit rock bottom for her job. But a different bad situation gives her an epiphany, and she decides to work her way toward marrying out of employment.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Bittersweet Ending: Interestingly enough, the series' first: Retsuko is stuck at her job and can't work with Puko, and she's still mad about the ¥30,000 she gave away. However, she's signed up for the yoga class, already seems to feel better about herself to the point that she's able to feel good for the wedding couple, and has had a proper, friendly introduction to Washimi and Gori, who are way nicer than their business personas let on.
- Call-Back: Fenneko compares Retsuko's dependability as no different to a robotic personality meeting corporate expectations. Here, she acts robotic as Ton and the others work her to the ground after her attitude last episode.
- Cold Open: The wedding of her friends is here, and Retsuko has difficulty giving up her wedding gift: ¥30,000. (Roughly US$300)Retsuko: GET YOUR DIRTY PAWS OFF MY MONEY!!!
- Driven to Suicide: While Retsuko is having lunch in the Archive Room (not wanting Fenneko and Haida to see her so down), Fenneko offhandedly plants the idea in Haida's head that Retsuko may be going to jump off the top of the building, to get him to talk to her. Naturally he freaks out.
- Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Retsuko has to say this to her friend when she calls during her lunch break. Of course, when her friend tells her the couple she gave ¥30,000 to separated the next day, this sets Retsuko off as well.
- "Eureka!" Moment: After her revenge idea, Retsuko gets the idea that she could marry her way out of her job.
- Kick the Dog: After seeing Retsuko at one of her lowest moments - hiding in the Archive room so she won't be embarrassed about her financial situation in front of Haida and Fenneko - the scene switches to Tsubone asking Haida where Retsuko is just so she can make her open one of her jars. This is accompanied by a rather unhinged laughter from Tsubone at the thought of it.
- Revenge: Retsuko says if she ever gets married, she'll invite the separated couple and make both give her ¥30,000 as a wedding gift.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Washimi and Gori overhear Retsuko's Metal Scream when they walk by the Archive Room. They both go Blue with Shock, then "baddest bitch in the room" their way out of there as fast as their high heels can carry them.
- Soul-Crushing Desk Job: Taken to its logical conclusion: Apparently Ton dressed Retsuko down so badly for talking back to Tsubone that she started acting like a mindless automaton in the office. A bottle of water got her back to her old self.
- The Stinger: At the very end, Retsuko's friend calls her and tells her the couple that got married made up, and won't be getting divorced after all.
- Twinkle in the Eye: A variant. Retsuko has just finished convincing herself that Washimi and Gori aren't interested in her. Cue both women turning towards Retsuko with one of these almost as soon as the thought is finished.
