The team continues their investigations in the future and Daisy learns a terrible secret.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Berserk Button: Gunner, when Yo-Yo and Mack find out he was expecting a child, repeatedly insults Mack, asserting that it's a good thing he's not a father. Mack, who lost his daughter in real life when she was a newborn and in The Framework after mental years of raising her, snaps and savagely attacks him.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Despite giving it all her best, May is swiftly overwhelmed by Sinara. Her bad leg might have contributed to that.
  • Designer Babies: Downplayed — the Kree's breeding program isn't confirmed to be selecting for specific features, aside from sensitivity to Terrigenesis.
  • Disappeared Dad: Deke's father was exiled to the surface after picking up the torch for his murdered wife and becoming a "true believer" of the S.H.I.E.L.D prophecy. Takes an interesting twist when Deke claims that the voice of Virgil's radio contact is his missing father.
  • Handicapped Badass: Despite her bad leg, May can still kick some serious Kree ass.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Mack is worried about Elena, having framed Grill's henchman Zev last episode, which caused his death. He then tells her not to lose herself in this place.
  • Irony: Mack, who told Elena not to lose herself, is possibly on the brink of savagely beating Gunner to death for pressing his personal Berserk Button. He even comments on it later.
  • It Amused Me: Why Grill shocked Mack instead of the others. Apparently it's funnier because he's bigger.
  • Locked Up and Left Behind: Coulson is understandably distrustful of Deke after discovering that he sold out Daisy to Kasius and decides to have Mack weld the door to his room shut while he figures out a plan with him and Yo-Yo.
  • Mama Bear: May when she finds out that Deke sold out Daisy. She attacks him the second she finds out and it's clear she was going to tear him apart if they hadn't been interrupted.
  • Mythology Gag: The Kree engineer the crops to cause sterility in humans. Logan used a similar plot device to explain the disappearance of mutantkind.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: By letting Ben into his presence, Kasius unwittingly allows his mind to be read and exposes his plan to destroy what's left of humanity once he gets what he wants out of them. Ben thus aids Daisy and Jemma rather than exposing their lies.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Mack's Berserk Button was unknowingly pushed way too hard.
  • Papa Wolf: Coulson is not happy when he finds out Deke sold out Daisy. He casually remarks that he'll get answers after letting May go to town on his carcass and still decks him once they get some breathing room.
  • Sterility Plague: The Kree have ended all natural human birth by way of crop tampering. Children are instead artificially bred using genetic samples from those deemed likely to bear Inhuman offspring.
  • Telepathy: The Inhuman introduced in this episode, Ben, can read the minds of others. Unbeknownst to the Kree, he can also telepathically send messages to others, which he uses to help Daisy and Jemma maintain a cover story that the latter couldn't hear the former telling.
  • Uncertain Doom: May seems to be on the losing end of her battle with Sinara when the scene cuts away. Sinara returns to Kasius later, evidently having won given she is seen cleaning blood off her orbs.
  • Vagueness Is Coming: Kasius says that the prophecy of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s return is very vague; there could be just two people, or twenty. Deke points out it would probably be less vague if the Kree hadn't killed everyone who knew anything about it.
  • Wham Shot: At the end of the episode, Kasius is presenting Daisy to a crowd, including one person in a black mask. When he announces an exhibition of her power, the person in the mask points out that she is Quake, Destroyer of Worlds, and thus should have to fight to the death. While he says this, he removes his helmet, revealing himself to be a surprisingly well-preserved Fitz.
  • Worf Had the Flu: May was already fighting an uphill battle against Sinara, but her wounded leg sure doesn't do her any favors, especially after she tries to pivot on it.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Grill happily calls Mack a "beast" who "fits right in." Mack, who just wants a peaceful life, doesn't appreciate it.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: May tells Coulson to leave with Deke, trying to stall Sinara as long as she can.
