Zora Wellspring

Princess Mipha of the Zora is recruited to the Champions.

Tropes:

  • And I Must Scream: Master Kohga is suddenly trapped inside of his own body by Astor, being possessed and used as a puppet for Astor's purposes, though his personality remains intact through the possession.
  • As You Know: When Impa comments on the Zonai not having worshipped a frog, Zelda reminds Impa that frogs are her people's patron animal, suggesting a connection between the two.
  • Connected All Along: Given that the Zonai put the Sheikah's patron animal in their ruins, alongside that of their own patron animals, it's clear that the Sheikah and Zonai races were very much connected to each other.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: The Lightning Lynel dies in utter agony with Malice eating its body away courtesy of Astor.
  • Daddy's Girl: Lochlia is super excited to see her father come to her home, and then is even happier when she gets to jump into his arms.
  • Demonic Possession: Astor uses his powers over Malice to take control over him. The spell imperfectly imitates Master Kohga's personality, and traps the true Master Kohga inside of his own mind, leaving his body to be a puppet.
  • Description Porn: There is a huge chunk of the chapter that is just describing the Great Plateau in all its splendor, glory, and beauty.
  • Designated Point Man: Impa volunteers to go ahead of the rest of the group as they rest to clear out monsters between Goponga Village and the road to Zora's Domain. It ended up not being necessary, as someone else already cleared the way, Princess Mipha herself.
  • Follow Your Heart: King Dorephan knows that giving Mipha permission to pilot Divine Beast Vah Ruta is a formality, because she'd likely do it anyway. He doesn't say it to her directly, but he admits that he wouldn't be able to stop her because she'd do it anyways.
  • Futureshadowing: Astor mentions that they need to observe the Champions to determine their weaknesses, referencing how the Blights were designed to reflect and counter the Champions.
  • Gosh Darn It to Heck!: Purah makes a comment about the brush being "so flipping thick!", and tells Robbie to get his "rear end up here". This is especially noticeable when other characters explicitly use the actual f-bomb.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Robbie is mesmerized with Cheria as she works to help cut down the trees on the Great Plateau, even with her sweaty appearance.
  • I Regret Nothing: Link has no regrets choosing to have a relationship with Mipha.
  • Kick the Dog: Astor could have killed the Lynel much less painfully, and there was no need to extend its suffering so much.
  • Law of Conservation of Detail: Only the very beginning of Zelda's offer to Mipha to become Ruta's pilot is shown. The flashback scene from the first fanfic is not repeated.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Impa and Link discusses the latter's romance with Mipha, and the former lampshades the weirdness of the fact that Mipha essentially saw Link grow up.
  • Moment Killer: Purah has none of Robbie and Cheria's Eating the Eye Candy moments, and outright tells them to get back to work and gawk at each other later.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Mipha's takedown of the monsters between her home and Goponga Village is not shown, only seen after the fact.
  • P.O.V. Sequel: This is the very first time the story intersects with one of the flashbacks from The Myth of Link & Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but the story cuts away from the scene when Mipha asks her who the other Champions are, instead showing other events occurring at the same time.
  • Proud Beauty: Cheria is very aware that she has Robbie's attention, and she looks right back at him and is happy to let him see her.
  • Sadist: Astor had no reason to prolong the Lightning Lynel's suffering, aside from his own pleasure in doing so.
  • Stalker without a Crush: The Catalyst Guardians, Astor, and the Yiga leaders are watching as Zelda recruits the Champions.
  • Time Dissonance: Link mentions that Zoras being so Long-Lived means that they view time very differently than Sheikah and Hylians. He broadly compares the way they view Hylians as similar to how Hylians view dogs in terms of how fast they age.
  • Wham Shot: Astor uses the Malice Orb to take control of Master Kohga's mind.
  • The Worf Effect: Once again, a Lynel falls victim to the powerful villains. In this case, it's Astor who infected the Lightning Lynel's body with Malice to kill it painfully.
