Recap / Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog S 01 E 52 Baby Sitter Jitters

Go To

The fifty-second episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

When Sonic rescues a village from a flash flood, he gets stuck with the job of baby-sitting three rambunctious baby beavers. Scratch and Grounder kidnap the Beaver Babies and attempt to hold them for ransom, but the Beaver Babies cause them and Robotnik great pain.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Babysitter's Nightmare: The Beaver Babies are terrors to anyone watching them, as Sonic, Tails, Robotnik, Scratch, and Grounder all find out. At the end of the episode, when Cleaver congratulates Sonic on being the first babysitter able to get his three children under control, he gives him the job of looking after them for the weekend so he and his wife can get out of town before they have a nervous breakdown.
  • Babysitting Episode: Sonic and Tails wind up babysitting a trio of baby beavers because Tails made the offer to the parents, saying that Sonic "loves babes".
  • Badass in Distress: Sonic and Tails end up trapped in a pit thanks to Robotnik tricking them into following a hologram of the Beaver Babies down a trap door. When Robotnik closes the trap door, Sonic and Tails have to be saved by the Beaver Babies.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: Sonic becomes this as a result of trying to keep the Beaver Babies from smashing up a cabinet full of dishes.
  • Big Dam Plot: In this episode, Robotnik plots to destroy a dam and flood Beaverville, first with a plasma putty explosive, then later with a Drill Tank. His first plan is foiled by Sonic when the latter rebuilds the dam, and his second plan is foiled by the Beaver Babies.
  • Car Meets House: When the Beaver Babies arrive at Robotnik's fortress, they crash his blimpnik through the roof.
  • Chromatic Arrangement: The Beaver Babies all wear different-colored shirts. Becky's is pink, Bucky's is blue, and Chucky's is green.
  • Continuity Nod: Scratch and Grounder are once again seen using Robotnik's Blimpnik, which was previously seen in "Sonic Gets Thrashed".
  • Crazy-Prepared: Sonic and Tails fall down a trap door when Robotnik tricks them by sending a hologram of the Beaver Babies down it. When they reach the bottom of the pit, Tails tells Sonic that Robotnik forgot he can fly them out, but Robotnik closes the trap door.
  • Disguised in Drag: To distract Sonic while Grounder captures the Beaver Babies, Scratch disguises himself as a lady about to be run over by a steamroller. Unfortunately for him, Sonic sees through his disguise and deliberately lets the steamroller flatten him.
  • Drill Tank: Robotnik's second attempt to flood Beaverville involves him using one of these.
  • Fan Disservice: Scratch calls Robotnik to inform him that he and Grounder have captured the Beaver Babies just as Robotnik is in the middle of taking a shower. When they arrive at Robotnik's fortress, Robotnik is seen wearing just a Modesty Towel.
  • Freeze Ray: This episode features Robotnik's "Reversible Melt-O/Freeze-O Ray", pairing this trope with its inverse. However, the two modes aren't used in tandem to any significant effect: early on, Robotnik is hit by the "Freeze-O" mode and trapped in a block of ice, while in the climax, the "Melt-O" mode makes a hole in a thick metal door that's trapping Sonic and Tails.
  • Harmless Freezing: The Beaver Babies freeze Robotnik in a block of ice using his reversible Melt-O-Freeze-O Ray. Robotnik is still able to talk from inside his ice block.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of the episode, Cleaver has Sonic and Tails babysit the Beaver Babies a second time while he and his wife get out of town for the weekend before they have a nervous breakdown.
  • Hologram: Robotnik tricks Sonic and Tails into falling through a Trap Door by sending what looks like the Beaver Babies in a cage down it. It is later revealed that this was just a hologram and that Scratch and Grounder have the real Beaver Babies.
  • I Have Your Wife: After Robotnik captures Sonic and Tails, Scratch and Grounder ask him what he's going to do with the Beaver Babies. Robotnik tells them that they'll give them back to their parents for a price.
  • Improvised Lockpick: When Sonic arrives at Robotnik's fortress to rescue the Beaver Babies, he uses one of his quills to pick the lock on the front door.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Robotnik gets smashed by his Ten-Ton Platinum Pulverizer, a spiked chained weight similar to those featured in Marble Zone from Sonic 1.
    • The drill tank that Robotnik uses in his second attempt to flood Beaverville is similar to the Egg Mobile-D, the first boss of Sonic 2.
  • Odd Name Out: The Beaver family consists of Becky, Bucky, Chucky, and Cleaver.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Becky wears a pink shirt, while Bucky wears a blue one.
  • Pity the Kidnapper: Robotnik, Scratch, and Grounder all suffer great pain thanks to the Beaver Babies, who even foil their second attempt to flood Beaverville.
Scratch: Grounder, you know what I like about kids?
    Grounder: What's that, Scratch?
    Scratch: Nothing!
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Robotnik retreats back to his fortress after his second plan to flood Beaverville is foiled by the Beaver Babies.
  • Squashed Flat: Scratch disguises himself as a lady about to be run over by a steamroller to distract Sonic while Grounder captures the beaver babies. Sonic sees through Scratch's disguise and deliberately lets the steamroller flatten him.
Sonic: My, what big feet you have. But you know what's worse than big feet?
    Scratch: What?
    (The steamroller flattens Scratch.)
    Sonic: Flat feet!
Scratch: I'll take flat feet over a flat body any day!
  • Trap Door: Robotnik sends a hologram of the Beaver Babies down one to trick Sonic and Tails into falling through it. Sonic and Tails are later saved by the Beaver Babies.
  • Two Guys and a Girl: The three Beaver Babies are Bucky (Male), Chucky (Male), and Becky (Female).
