Recap / Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog S 01 E 07 Trail Of The Missing Tails

Go To

The seventh episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

When Tails gets trapped in the Warp of Confusion by Robotnik's cousin, Dr. Warpnik, Sonic comes to the rescue and traps Robotnik and his badniks in the warp.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Agony of the Feet: When Grounder loads a safe onto one of his catapults, it falls off it and lands on his right tread, putting him in pain and turning it into a pulsating foot. Keep in mind that Grounder is a robot.
  • And Knowing Is Half the Battle: In the"Sonic Says" segment, Tails is lost and needs to call home, but he does not know his phone number. Sonic comes and whispers the number to him. Sonic turns to the audience and tells them to learn their own phone number before it is too late.
Tails: Uh-oh, I think I'm lost. (dodges getting smashed by a tree monster’s hand) I gotta find a phone fast! (finds a phone booth) Operator? I need to call home. The number? (struggles to remember his phone number, then Sonic appears and whispers the number into his ear) Got it, thanks, Sonic! OK, that's area code...
Sonic: (talks to the home audience) You can't call home if you don't know your area code and phone number by heart! Memorize it now, don't wait until it's too late!
  • Anvil on Head: Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts all get Squashed Flat by both an anvil and a safe from Grounder's booby trap.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Near the end of this episode, Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts are caught in a huge explosion from Warpnik's machine, and turn into giant monsters. (They "blew up", so to speak.)
  • Big Brother Instinct: When Sonic finds out that Tails has gone missing, he stops at nothing to find and rescue him.
  • Blame Game: When Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts fail to capture Sonic and have to explain their failure to Robotnik, they're all quick to blame each other.
Scratch and Grounder: It was his fault!
    Coconuts: Yeah, their fault!
  • Bowled Over: When Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts try to pounce at Sonic, Sonic runs through them, turning them into bowling pins and knocking them over.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Warpnik is so weird and creepy that he freaks out even Robotnik, who banished him to the Warp of Confusion in disgust. He's prone to rambling on odd tangents, has a disturbing obsession with fish, bursts into fits of maniacal laughter, and generally acts in a really bizarre way.
Warpnik: He said I was a looney!
  • The Dog Bites Back: When Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts get turned into giant monsters by Warpnik's machine, they remember how mean Robotnik was to them and decide to deliver some well-deserved payback to their boss.
Robotnik: What? No! Get back! I, Robotnik, command you!
    Grounder: Sorry, Doc,
Scratch: But youse had this comin' a long time!
    Coconuts: Yeah, yeah!
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Robotnik loathes Warpnik for being a creepy, freaky, utter loony with an unsettling fixation on fish, to the point he sealed him up in a pocket dimension called the Warp of Confusion to get him out of everyone's hair.
  • Expressive Hair: Warpnik has a floating blonde wig that reacts expressively to his emotions. It forms the word, HEE when he laughs wickedly, spins around when he acts crazy, and turns into an exclamation point when he stares in shock at Robotnik.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Sonic takes control of Scratch's booby trap, setting it, as well as Grounder and Coconuts' booby traps off on the badniks.
  • If I Wanted You Dead...: When Tails is kidnapped by Warpnik, Sonic thought it was Robotnik's doing. Robotnik denied it by claiming he'd be torturing Tails had he kidnapped him.
  • Impact Silhouette: When Robotnik kicks Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts out of his Egg-O-Matic hovercraft, they all leave holes shaped like their bodies as they hit the ground.
  • Laughing Mad: Warpnik cackles and giggles almost incessantly.
  • Lean and Mean: Unlike his bloated cousin, Warpnik is a tall, spindly figure.
  • Mythology Gag: The Warp of Confusion is a vague impression of the Special Stages from Sonic 1, namely the schools of flying fish.
  • Not Me This Time: When Sonic finds Tails missing, he immediately suspects Robotnik of kidnapping him. When Sonic comes to Robotnik's fortress and asks him what he's done with Tails, Robotnik explains to him that he doesn't know where Tails is.
  • The One Thing I Don't Hate About You: Even though Sonic hates Robotnik with every fiber of his being, he loves the chili dogs he makes, even admitting in this episode that he's improved his recipe.
  • Pass the Popcorn:
    • When Warpnik explains his origin to Sonic, Sonic is seen sitting in a movie theater-style seat and eating popcorn.
    • At the end of this episode, Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts share some popcorn as they watch Robotnik and Warpnik hit each other with fish.
  • Shamu Fu: When forced into combat, Warpnik's go-to method of attack is to smack people with live fish. Warpnik's fish takes so much abuse that it dons a helmet.
