Go To

The fourteenth episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Scratch and Grounder have to deliver a train load of bombs to Dr. Robotnik's Emporium of Devastation, Destruction, and Demolition, but Sonic and Tails are trying to stop them. Scratch and Grounder meet up with Da Bearz, who mistake them for Sonic and Tails. Meanwhile, as a result of Scratch and Grounder not switching their train to the right track, they are headed for an unfinished bridge, built directly over the Buffalo Village.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Robotnik's Emporium of Devastation, Destruction, and Demolition.
  • All Deserts Have Cacti: Near the end of this episode, Da Bearz are headed for a patch of cacti. This forces Sonic to sacrifice his original plan to switch the train onto a dead end with a fallen tree so that said fallen tree can push Da Bearz to safety.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Da Bearz are this when Scratch and Grounder trick them into thinking that they're Sonic and Tails to stop the real Sonic and Tails.
  • Beary Friendly: Once Da Bearz find out who the real Sonic and Tails and the real Scratch and Grounder are, they are determined to redeem themselves by helping Sonic and Tails rebuild the bridge over the Buffalo Village before the Robotnik Express can fall off it.
  • Character Catchphrase: Big Griz and Big Mike always refer to themselves as DA BEARZ!
  • Comically Missing the Point: Sonic disguises himself as a train conductor to trick Scratch, Grounder, and Da Bearz into going on another train by saying that their tickets are for the Eastbound Express, rather than the Westbound that they're on. This exchange then occurs:
Big Griz: Uh, any of youse feel like maybe we was tricked?
Sonic: Hey, I'm sorry, Gents, but I just goofed up big time!
Big Griz: See, I knew it! We had tickets for the Westbound Express after all!
  • High-Speed Train Reroute: Sonic attempts to switch the Robotnik Express onto a dead end so that the train will fall off a cliff instead of the unfinished bridge built over the Buffalo Village. However, because he and Tails can't budge the lever, Sonic puts a fallen tree on the tracks so that the train will hit it and the tree will hit the switch.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Da Bearz mistake Scratch and Grounder for Sonic and Tails. Scratch and Grounder take advantage of the situation to trick them into thinking that the real Sonic and Tails are really Scratch and Grounder.
  • Impact Silhouette: When Da Bearz get hit by a low tunnel, they leave Big Griz and Big Mike-shaped holes in it.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Robotnik opens a missile factory called Robotnik's Emporium of Devastation, Demolition, and Destruction in this episode, with the intent to build a missile big enough to annihilate all of Mobius.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: In this episode's "Sonic Says" segment, Scratch and Grounder wear nothing more than Groucho Marx glasses to trick Tails into thinking that they're Sonic's friends and that Sonic's been hurt and needs his help.
  • Race Against the Clock: Sonic and Tails have only five minutes to switch the train away from the unfinished bridge before it falls off it and annihilates the Buffalo Village.
  • Shout-Out: "Da Bearz" is a reference to an old Saturday Night Live sketch featuring Chris Farley and Mike Myers as Chicago sports fans who spoke in a accent and would often mention "Da Bears."
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: When Da Bearz come to the caboose to rescue Sonic and Tails after Scratch and Grounder capture them, they believe that Scratch and Grounder are really Sonic and Tails. Grounder tries to tell them that he isn't Sonic, but Scratch slaps him and says, "I am! He's Tails!"
  • Too Smart for Strangers: This episode's "Sonic Says" segment has Scratch and Grounder trick Tails into thinking they're Sonic's friends and that Sonic's hurt and needs his help. Tails is about to go into their car, but Sonic tells both him and the viewers that it's not safe to get into a car with strangers.
  • Track Trouble: The Robotnik Express is headed towards an unfinished bridge, built directly over the Buffalo Village. When Sonic reaches the bridge, he informs two of the workers that they only have five minutes to fix the bridge before the train gets to it. Towards the end of the episode, when Sonic is forced to sacrifice his original plan to switch the train onto a dead end and save Da Bearz, they have to fix the bridge as fast as they can, at least to the point of launching the train to the other side of the bridge.
  • Trainstopping: Sonic disguises himself as a fitness coach to trick Da Bearz into stopping the train with their bear hands.
  • Trash the Set: At the end of this episode, Robotnik's Emporium of Destruction, Devastation, and Demolition is destroyed when the train smashes into the factory due to failed brakes.
