A mysterious monster is attacking the Banana Guard, but Finn is still traumatized over his killing Fern.

Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: Huntress Wizard names the monster "Grumbo" on the spot. At the end of the episode, we see that Gumbald originally named it "Bananameister" but took a liking to HW's name and rechristened it Grumbo.
  • Die or Fly: Inverted; Huntress Wizard gets Finn to kill the monster by letting it charge at her, putting her own life on the line. She thinks it worked because Finn likes her, although Finn may well have done the same for any innocent person.
  • Evil Uncle: The one who created the monster was PB's Uncle Gumbald.
  • Expy: The Grumbo is one of Grendel, sharing a similar modus operandi(snatching guards from their barracks in the night to consume), a highly similar shape, and even similar names. The title card art even harkens back to the epic of Beowulf.
  • Gratuitous French: Finn completely mispronounces "Coup de GrĂ¢ce" by using English phonetics ("coop de-gracy", instead of "coo de-grah"), and Huntress Wizard either shares or imitates his mistakes.
  • Groin Attack: During the second bout against the creature, Finn just barely leaps over one of its hot fudge projectiles and it ends up grazing him in his groin area. Complete with steam coming from the wound. Ouch.
  • I Would Say If I Could Say: Huntress tracks the banana monster by the hot fudge it leaves around. She finds some on the ground and says the trail has gone "cold", in the sense that she can't follow it anymore, even though it's still literally hot.
  • Instant Soprano: An attack from the banana monster grazes Finn's crotch, and Finn's voice is much higher when he then suggests retreating.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: As PB consoles Finn for his Accidental Murder of Fern, she insists death is a not a laughing matter. Then she slips on a Banana Peel left by one of the monster's victims (though the end of the episode suggests those guards were just peeled and taken alive).
  • The Reveal: That mysterious figure from last episode? PB's Uncle Gumbald. And he has it in for Finn.
  • Screaming at Squick: Finn convinced himself to fight without reservation by picturing Fern's face on Huntress Wizard, the one he was protecting, instead of the one he was fighting. However, Finn gives her a kiss, sees Fern's face on hers again, and then Screams Like a Little Girl.
  • Ship Tease: Between Finn and Huntress Wizard, especially after Finn manages to slay the beast.
  • Unflinching Faith in the Brakes: The monster is charging Huntress Wizard as Finn slays it, and she doesn't move as it falls over and skids to a stop inches from her face.
  • Wham Shot: At the end of the episode, we get to see Gumbald's next monster: it's Fern, and he has a new and monstrous appearance.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Finn loses yet another sword when impaling the monster causes the hot fudge to melt his rapier.
