Princess Bubblegum’s scientific mind must wrestle with her Elemental magic potential when she’s faced with a Crystal Entity.

Tropes:

  • Be Yourself: This is how PB goes about her powers. Chatsberry tells her that she has to walk in her own shoes, and PB is able to summon soda pop and scotch mints by breaking down their chemical components and generating those, as opposed to just trying to force the end results.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: Bubblegum is able to use her chemical knowledge to control her power over candy, specifically by thinking of the component ingredient of soda pop and Scotch mints to form an explosive mixture of the two.
  • Cross-Referenced Titles: To "Crystals Have Power"
  • Destructive Savior: PB's initial attempts at fighting the Crystal Entity do roughly the same amount of damage to the Candy Kingdom as the Entity itself. The people don't seem to mind... until the Entity explodes, devastating the surroundings in an aversion of No Endor Holocaust.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: When the Crystal Entity explodes, a humanoid silhouette can be seen in the resulting smoke cloud. About a minute later, we discover Patience St. Pim was moving the whole episode.
  • Four Is Death: The first number called out is four; the Crystal Entity shoots out four "spears" that cause a lot of damage.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Slime Princess accuses Bubblegum of being jealous of her slime powers. In reality, Bubblegum was more upset that she couldn't get a good hold of her own powers.
  • Inadvertent Entrance Cue: Princess Bubblegum angrily says that no one likes Slime Princess shooting slime all over the place. Finn and Jake then peek through the window and compliment her on all the cool slime.
  • Mundane Utility: To show off her powers to Slime Princess, Bubblegum shoots a stream of jelly beans ricocheting across the room to move the sugar bowl over to Slime Princess. It takes forever and she's clearly exhausted by the end.
  • Sequel Hook: Patience St. Pim in Simon's castle, planning something involving the other elementals who rejected her.
  • Shout-Out: Star Trek: The Next Generation also had a Crystal(ine) Entity who the characters try to talk to before destroying.
  • Soda-Candy 'Splosion: Princess Bubblegum uses soda pop and Scotch mints (or, in this case, the basic ingredients) to create explosions with her new candy elemental powers.
  • Spirit Advisor: Seeing a quartered circle, representing the four elements, sends PB into a trance where she consults Chatsberry on how to use her power.
  • Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: The Crystal Entity, which is shaped like a cootie catcher, asks for a number. Peppermint Butler asks what ding-dong would be stupid enough to fall for such an obvious trap, and at that moment the candy people start calling out numbers, triggering the Crystal to attack.
  • You Were Trying Too Hard: Bubblegum can't use her powers for much, not even what's demonstrated to her by a past life in a dream, because she assumes her power is something new and tries to force it. It's only when she starts to examine it scientifically, as she would for most things, that PB finds a natural and effective method.
