Normal Man asks for Finn and Jake's help to rescue his brother.
  • Attack Reflector: Jake manages to block the archer bandits' arrows with his body and bounce them back, taking most of the archers out.
  • Battle Boomerang: Tiny Manticore uses two of them in his fight against Normal Man, Finn, and Jake.
  • Boomerang Comeback: One of Tiny Manticore's boomerangs misses Finn, Jake, and Normal Man, but gets Jake on the way back.
  • Callback: With the Finn Sword damaged, Finn uses the root sword again for the first time since season 3.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Normal Man uses the telescope-transformed deer at the beginning of the episode.
    • One of the dangers of Wild Trap Mountain is that squirrel who hates Jake from "The Duke".
  • Death Mountain: Tiny Manticore holds Glob hostage at the top of Wild Trap Mountain.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Tiny Manticore finally snaps from all the abuse he took from the former Magic Man.
  • Fire-Breathing Weapon: Tiny Manticore use a flamethrower against Normal Man, but misses.
  • Good Costume Switch: Instead of the tattered yellow clothes he wore as Magic Man, Normal Man wears slacks and a button shirt.
  • Heel–Face Turn:
    • Without his magic-induced insanity, Normal Man has become a much nicer guy. After saving Glob, he returns to Mars to be the Martians' new leader.
    • Tiny Manticore, main antagonist of this episode, saves Normal Man and Glob from falling to their death seeing how much they care for each other.
  • Literal Metaphor: Normal Man talks about throwing the citizens of Mars under the bus back when he was Magic Man. A flashback shows that he literally tied up his fellow Martians and drove a school bus over them, which is implied to be the stunt that finally got him banished to the land of Ooo.
  • Long List: Normal Man warns Finn and Jake about some of the many hazards of Wild Trap Mountain.
Normal Man: It's called Wild Trap Mountain for a reason! Look: normal-sized manticores, carnivore plants, camouflaged rock-beasts, mind-control parasites, archer bandits that'll shoot you straight out of the sky, this one quiet dude nobody messes with, a dragon ghost, red ants, weekend survivalists, waking-dream demons, that squirrel that hates you, Jake...
    Jake: Who?
  • Meaningful Rename: Having been Brought Down to Normal, Magic Man goes by the name Normal Man now.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Tiny Manticore decides he wants revenge on Normal Man even though he's no longer a jerk.
  • Not Quite Dead: It is revealed that Grob Gob Glob Grod survived the events of "Astral Plane", but are now a quartet of sentient spheres, orbiting Earth as tiny moons.
  • Odd Friendship: The valley girl, Lumpy Space Princess, and the neurotic Lemongrab are seen on a date. Lemongrab gets uncomfortable about it and starts to leave before getting decked by a low-flying Tiny Manticore.
  • Psychic-Assisted Suicide: One of the mind-controlling plants shoots a thorn at Finn that nearly makes him stab himself with his sword.
  • So Much for Stealth: Finn, Jake, and Normal Man try to sneak up Wild Trap Mountain, but after Jake nearly gets eaten by a carnivorous plant their cover is blown and they're forced to make a run for it.
