Short tales involving a time machine, Cinnamon Bun's fear of the dark, Ice King's movie night, The Lemongrabs' playdate, and Mr. Fox returning home from a trip to the city.

Tropes

  • Ascended Extra: Mr. Fox from "Storytelling" gets a story of his own.
  • Cain and Abel: Lemongrab 1 and 2 are shown to be this especially when the former eats the latter.
  • Cliffhanger Copout: Played for Laughs; Cuber the narrator/host stops the last grayble before it's over, right when Finn and Jake activate their nonsense "time machine" and suddenly the room turns red and a whirlwind starts to sweep chaotically through the room as if the time machine is actually working. When Cuber is convinced to cut back and show the end of the story, it turns out that all of the chaos was just BMO's incredibly overblown alarm system, as Cinnamon Bun has broken into their house to steal a nightlight.
BMO: Jake Jr., I'm sorry I spoiled your time travel.
Jake Jr.: That's OK. It was all make believe anyway.
  • Darker and Edgier: The Lemongrab sketch is much darker and more disturbing than the rest of the episode.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Focusing on Jake Jr, Cinnamon Bun, Ice King, the Lemongrabs and Mr. Fox.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Lemongrab eats Lemongrab 2 for accidentally breaking the doll.
  • Divergent Character Evolution: Subtle, but noticeable; Lemongrab 2 is slowly showing himself to be a better person than Lemongrab.
  • Eaten Alive: Lemongrab, when Lemongrab 2 accidentally breaks their toy, decides to eat the latter.
  • Five Stages of Grief: The theme of the five graybles. Acceptance (Finn accepts a package from Jake), denial (Cinnamon Bun is denied his nightlight), bargaining (Ice King bargains his penguins to watch a movie), anger (Lemongrab gets angry at his brother for breaking their doll), and depression (Mr. Fox finds a depression in his bed shaped like him, where his subconscious self emerges).
  • Foreshadowing: Lemongrab 2's empathetic care of the lemon doll shows him to a more caring person than he let on initially.
  • Funny Background Event: We briefly see the Candy Kingdom still on fire through the window of Ice King's palace.
  • Hidden Depths: Jake Jr ponders about what the future will bring.
    • Lemongrab 2 treats the lemon child doll like his own child, while Lemongrab wanted to play with it like a toy.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: It was hinted at when he threatened to eat Ice King in "Mystery Dungeon", but finally shown when Lemongrab eats Lemongrab 2.
  • Impact Silhouette: Cinnamon Bun leaves a hole shaped like himself in Mr. Fox's wall.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Jake Jr. pours herself some more "juice" in response to Finn and Jake being annoying.
  • Interactive Narrator: Subverted. When he asks the audience if they want to see another "Grayble", despite their protests, he does so anyway.
  • Kick the Dog: While Lemongrab 2 gets a bonnet for their baby doll, Lemongrab continues to play with the doll and states that "they" hate him. Then Lemongrab 1 goes ahead and eats his brother alive just for breaking their doll on accident.
  • Mood Whiplash: Goes from the light hearted stories of Finn and co to a rather dark drama involving Lemongrab 2's empathy versus Lemongrab's Lack of Empathy and the devouring of the latter. Immediately going into a more light hearted tale about Mr. Fox.
  • Newspaper Dating: Parodied with the obviously fake newspaper Jake creates to "prove" he went to the future.
  • Primal Fear: Cinnamon Bun is deeply afraid of sleeping in the dark.
  • Shout-Out: Cinnamon Bun interrupting Mr. Fox is a shout out to the famous story of Samuel Taylor Coleridge being interrupted while writing "Xanadu" and forgetting what he was going to write.
  • There Was a Door: Cinnamon Bun smashes through the wall of Mr. Fox's house as he runs away.
  • Twisted Echo Cut: The first line of dialogue in each "grayble" is a repetition of the last line of the previous one, in a completely different context.
  • Wham Episode: Everything else was just whimsical fun then we see Lemongrab eating Lemongrab 2 for a very minor accident.
  • Wham Line: "...OOOOONLYYYY OOOOOOOOONNNNNEE!!!"
