Ice King creates a computer virus to delete everybody except him and Princess Bubblegum.

Tropes

  • All-CGI Cartoon: The graphics are completely CGI in this episode rather than traditional animation like previous episodes. The episode was animated by special guest David O'Reilly.
  • Angrish: PB yells angry gibberish while smashing Ice King's computer.
  • Art Shift: The animation in the episode is CGI, which gets increasingly more glitchy as the episode progresses and the Ice King's virus causes reality to get more and more screwed up.
  • Author's Retaliation: When Finn says that professional animators must "have no life whatsoever" he inexplicably punches himself in the face.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The Trailer for the episode was not shown before it's initial airing in favor of showing a very brief trailer for an episode of Regular Show instead. Meanwhile, in Canada, Teletoon promoted the episode as "Ice King Time".
  • Brick Joke: The spider-snake hybrid Jake created attacks Ice King at the end.
  • Broken-Window Warning: Ice King throws the virus-infected disk through the Tree Fort's window, taped to a cinder block.
Jake: Hey Finn, did you order a brick?
  • Buffy Speak: Finn guesses that the little glowing hexagons that make up the universal source code represent "every single thing that's a thing back on thing."
  • Canon Discontinuity: The episode's creator stated this episode was never meant to be canon with the show's regular continuity.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The shock-site video of a woman eating her own hair is recreated by Finn and Jake in order to make the Ice King's virus puke up the pieces of "universal source code" it was eating.
  • Continuity Nod: After the stunt Ice King pulled, Finn and Jake express a desire to kick him in the "boing-loings".
  • Evil Plan: A rather destructive plan by the Ice King to delete everyone except himself and Bubblegum.
  • Foreshadowing: The episode starts with Finn and Jake creating a computer image of Ice King being attacked by spiders and a snake.
  • Fun with Subtitles: As Finn interrogates a glitch creature, its garbled speech is translated. From their perspective, Finn and Jake see the subtitles backwards and try to decipher it.
  • Fusion Dance: Jake accidentally fuses a spider and snake together to form a snake spider.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: When Princess Bubblegum starts kissing her own in defiance of Ice King's advances, Ice King tries to get her to kiss his hand. We get a close-up of his grimey hand while he does it.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Ice King is fused into a house and is then bitten by the snake spider.
  • Left the Background Music On: Ice King carries around a tape recorder with a laugh track on it.
  • Literal-Minded: At some point Princess Bubblegum told Ice King that she'd only date him if he was the last person on Ooo. His response is to try to destroy everyone in Ooo except the two of them with a reality-warping computer virus.
  • Matrix Raining Code: When Finn and Jake enter the Source Code of the Universe.
  • Narcissist: Princess Bubblegum has been shown to be this when she is very obsessive on kissing her own hands.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: "Simon and Marcy", which was all about Ice King's tragic past, is immediately followed by an episode that demonstrates just how dangerous he can be if his deranged mind fixes on the wrong thing.
  • Overly Long Gag: The "One second later" title, which lasts far longer than one second.
  • Robo Speak: Ice King inexplicably lapses into this briefly while discussing his computer virus.
  • Shock Site: The virus is released through Ice King sending Finn and Jake a floppy disc showing a bizarre video of a woman eating her own hair.
  • Shout-Out: When smashing Ice King's computer at the end, Princess Bubblegum uses "sassafrassin" as a minced oath like Dick Dastardly.
  • Special Edition Title: The episode opens with a CG-animated version of the show's opening sequence.
  • Telefrag: Ice King gets merged into a house when the world is recreated. The end of the episode shows he's still stuck there.
  • Title Drop: Subverted
Jake: Let's do this, for Righty!
Finn: That's the spirit! ADVENTURE TI- [stops when he notices his body glitching]
  • Title In: As Finn prepares to attack the virus, a title that reads "One second later" appears on screen. It stays there for much longer than one second.
