Tropes

  • The Atoner: Xergiok after losing his sight and undergoing a spiritual revelation.
  • Call-Back: When evil, Xergiok was defeated by Finn and Jake in "The Silent King".
  • Chekhov's Gag: Early on, Bubblegum mentions that she's dealing with a group of suicidally lonely mermaids. At the end, Xergiok tries to drown himself in a lake after his brief return to evil drives his only friends away. Jake callously says he'll be fine. Cue Xergiok riding a mermaid out of the water, triumphantly shouting "I found a girlfriend!"
  • Chronic Villainy: Almost as soon as his eyes are back in, Xergiok returns to his old megalomaniacal spanking-obsessed ways.
  • Defeat Equals Friendship: Xergiok reformed after being defeated by Finn and Jake.
  • Discretion Shot: Whatever Xergiok does to feed the chicks, which absolutely horrifies Finn and Jake.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: Xergiok has a bizarre, psychedelic musical number after he gets his sight back.
  • Easily Forgiven: Averted. Jake is initially still skeptical about Xergiok's change of heart.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Xergiok's birds are named after foods and spices (Taffy, Cardamom, etc.)
  • Empathic Healer: Xergiok uses his new mystic skills to heal people by swapping his body parts for their injured or diseased ones.
  • Enlightenment Superpower: Xergiok's new superpowers come from his spiritual advancement.
  • Eye Scream: A wizard took Xergiok's eyes, which hides behind his Cool Shades. Though the eyes are now placed on his beard.
  • Gag Nose: Taffy and his bird kind have bulbous noses.
  • Hermit Guru: Xergiok's new desert-dwelling enlightened state.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: The wizard who took Xergiok's eyes hid them in his beard.
  • Magic Music: Xergiok's new matter-transmission and mystic-surgery powers are activated by musically pitched shouts.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Xergiok feels ashamed for going back to his evil, spank-happy ways and driving off his bird friends. So much so, he plucks his eyes out again and tries to drown himself in the Goblin Kingdom's reservoir.
  • Oh, Crap!: The guards at Goblin City are understandably horrified to see Xergiok is back.
  • Sequel Episode: This is one for "The Silent King".
  • Shown Their Work: The Braille inscription carved into the stick actually does read what Jake says it does.
  • Suddenly Always Knew That: Jake apparently learned Braille from one of his exes.
  • Suicide by Sea: Xergiok attempts this at the end, but changes his mind.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Xergiok has learned some sort of spatial transference spell after becoming blind.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Xergiok is far less of a jerk than he was before.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Since Xergiok is so unstable, it's hinted at times that he didn't really get blinded by a wizard, and that it was either an accident or he did it himself.
