- Bait-and-Switch:
Nurse Pound Cake: Attention, everyone.
Finn: (in desperation) IS PB OKAY?!
Nurse Pound Cake: Yes. But there were some complications.
Nurse Pound Cake: Yes. I'm afraid there wasn't enough gum to work with. So it appears Princess Bubblegum is now... (no, not dead, but...) younger. (A young Princess Bubblegum steps out of the emergency room. Everyone gasps, astonished.) She's 13 years old now.
- Big "NO!": Dropped by Finn near the end, when Nurse Pound Cake says that PB is okay, but there were some complications.
- Cassandra Truth: Finn doesn't listen to the Ice King's claim of "seeing something" in the Lich's lair, thinking it's just more of his senile nonsense.
- Comically Missing the Point: Finn assumes that the various nasty things the possessed PB asked him to collect for her is just "lady stuff". This includes bleach, gasoline, ammonia, lighter fluid, and plutonium.
- Chekhov's Skill: Ice King's "wizard eyes" allows him to see the Lich possessing Bubblegum as well as becoming more important later on.
- Cross-Referenced Titles: To Mortal Folly.
- Demonic Possession: PB is possessed by the Lich and keeps acting "off" to say the least. When Jake tries to cheer her up, she starts acting like something out of The Exorcist.
- The End... Or Is It?: The last shot shows that the Lich took possession of the Waving Snail again.
- Enemy Mine: Ice King, Finn and Jake team up to defeat the Lich-possessed Bubblegum.
- Even Evil Has Standards: When Ice King sees that Princess Bubblegum has been de-aged into a 13 year old, he immediately declares his disinterest and leaves.
- Evil-Detecting Dog:
- When Peppermint Butler sees a possessed Bubblegum, he hisses and runs away on all fours.
- Jake is the first person to begin to suspect something seems off about PB.
- Hiss Before Fleeing: Peppermint Butler turns animalistic on seeing the possessed Princess, and does this.
- Ice Breaker: Poor Princess Bubblegum gets shattered after the Ice King freezes her. It drives the Lich out of her body, but there's only enough physical mass left to give her the body of a thirteen year-old girl.
- Multi-Part Episode: The second half of the first of many.
- Naked on Revival: Princess Bubblegum, when she is restored to her humanoid form. Thankfully she's covered with a blanket.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
- Finn is oblivious to Princess Bubblegum's Demonic Possession and doesn't question her when she asks him to get some stuff. Stuff that she uses to transform herself into a giant monster.
- The Ice King saves the day by freezing the possessed PB, but then she topples over and smashes into pieces.
- Not What It Looks Like: When Jake spies on the possessed Princess Bubblegum mixing up toxic waste in the bath-tub, Finn thinks Jake is spying on PB while she's taking a bath.
- One-Winged Angel: Possessed Bubblegum turns into a huge Humanoid Abomination with a concoction that the Lich was going to initially use.
- True Sight: This is the first time Ice King's "Wizard Eyes" power is mentioned.
- Wham Episode: The Lich possesses Bubblegum, Ice King and the duo team up to defeat him, and Bubblegum is made physically 13 years old.
