"Look each new victim in the eye. And never forget them. They certainly won't forget you."
Major Solf J. Kimblee, Fullmetal Alchemist

Wufei: You're only fighting to satisfy your ego! How many people have died for you? Huh?
Treize: Do you really want to know?
Wufei: Huh?
Treize: As of yesterday, 99,822 people.
Wufei: What?
Treize: Lady, how many have died today?
Une: So far, we have received confirmation of the deaths of 82 White Fang soldiers and 105 of our own soldiers.
Treize: I see. Give me their names later on today.
Une: Yes, sir.
Wufei: Damn you!
Treize: I remember everyone who sacrificed their lives in battle. How can I forget them? Noventa. Septum. Vente. Darlian. Walker. Otto. Vunt. Their names are all etched into my heart.

"I'm in the morgue, looking at the wall of sealed stasis chambers. Five of the indicator panels are lit. I try to remember something, anything about the names on the panels. Chief Botany Specialist Nathan Rutgers. Security Officer Thara Jhehl. Crewman Recruit Telos. Geology Specialist Juno Ichigaki. Crewman Cdebaat. I know their names, and I knew Cdebaat well enough - I'd brought him on away missions before - to know he was the kind of Tellarite who fully lived up to their stereotype of stubborn and argumentative and fully enjoyed that he did so."
Captain Kanril Eleya, Bait and Switch

Kira, from 3, thrown into the lake by Quintus. Caraway from 5, killed by Romani at the bloodbath. Reesa from 6, who had her legs amputated by Link before Quintus finished her off. Cole [the boy from 5], killed by the boy from 8 in a fight over a single water bottle. That same boy, Tune, speared through by Alabaster before she could kill his district partner. Owen [the boy from 6], who had lingered too long at the Cornucopia and was cut down by Link as he tried to escape. Doralie and Rie, the tributes from District 12, who had held each other sobbing as Link and Alabaster finished them off. Clare [the girl from 10], the girl with the angel's face, knifed in the back by Plautia before she could meet a more painful death. Chip [the boy from 3], blown into pieces in front of my face by a Gamemakers' trap. Robin [the girl from 11], killed by Plautia on one of the Careers' expeditions out into the arena. Sower [the boy from 11] and Monaghan [the boy from 9], dead in the foolish attempt to raid the Careers' supplies that almost succeeded.

Bobbi [the girl from 9], dead by her own poison as Charlie generously gave her food behind her back. Qin Li [the girl from 8], panicked and out of her mind, knifed in the stomach by a frightened and bewildered Charlie. Plautia, throat slit by Alabaster for her attempt to spare Devon and I the torture planned for us. Devon, my friend, who died what is arguably the most horrific death the Hunger Games has ever seen. Alabaster, Tara, and Quintus, torn apart by the mutts that I called with the sound of my voice. [...] Romani and Charlie, dashed at the bottom of the Ferris wheel from where they fell in combat. Abel, not a tribute per se, but a loyal friend who died to save my life. Link, killed by a spear that I hurled so hard it thrust itself halfway through his body.

All of their faces. All of their names. They've been filed away by the Capitol as Hunger Games deaths 1199-1221, but to me they will always be the boys and girls who could've come home if it weren't for me.
Blight in his narration and recap of his Games, The Lumberjack and the Tree Elf

"It is commonly known that Ozriel, the Black Judge, who governs the universal aspect of death and destruction, carries a scroll which he uses to record the names of every living being killed in the severing of a world from the Way—both those who die in the events of the violent downward spirals that lower the local population enough for the world to become vulnerable to corruption, and those who live to be reaped by his own hand, at the end.
Each name is written in the native language of the deceased, presented in the fashion which would be most appropriate according to their culture and personal views.
This is surely not for his own benefit, as by his nature the Reaper has an exhaustively precise memory of anyone he has ever killed, and indeed of all deaths that have occurred in what may very generously be defined as the vicinity of his person.
During a legislative session of the Court of Seven, when the Judges had once more convened to discuss the matter of granting the secrets of healing known within the Way to mankind, Ozriel took the floor to argue in favor of changing the law, as he had every time the motion had been raised previously.
Instead of speaking, he held up the scroll and let it fall open, allowing it to continue unrolling in silence for the entirety of his allotted time.
By the time custom required him to yield the floor to his opponent, the scroll had unfurled to such a length that it filled all available space within the room, and had continued to unroll the list of names out the doorway and down the entire length of the hall, with no signs of stopping.
Makiel, the Judge who governs the universal aspect of fate, banished the scroll from the physical space around him with a passing whisper of thought and proceeded to make his own argument: that the Eledari Pact stood as written and would remain so, for though too-certain Death could witness all mortal suffering, even he could not see as Fate did the horror averted by the careful restraint of the Abidan.
Where their eternal laws might prevent them from doing some good, it also prevented them from committing any evil—and when considered on the scale of the Judges, a single evil act on their part would cause far more terrible suffering than the natural course of human life, short and often painful though it may be.
To strip away mankind's certain protection in exchange for their uncertain benefit would, he insisted, be an act of monstrous arrogance.
Under popular opinion, Makiel's position is currently held to be the more correct of the two, and indeed the motion was denied once more at a vote of five against three.
But Ozriel continues to tally the dead."

Butterfly Skaggs: Do you remember them? I don't remember who got reaped last year! I honestly don't. Is anyone going to remember me?
Effie: It was Moss Bullard and Della Farragut. Moss told me that he loved the time of year when the snow and ice start to melt, and he can hear rivers cracking out in the woods across the fence at night. Della had a boyfriend named Dale, and she thought their names sounded too silly together to be a couple. I remember them. Haymitch remembers them. And if you don't win, I'll remember you.

Lockett: You gettin' us out too, Staff Sergeant? Or are we expendable? Hm?
Nantz: All right, Lockett. You want to go there? Let's go there. I commanded men, and men died. Kids. Nineteen years old. The best men I ever led. Do you think for one second that I wouldn't rather trade places with them? I know you think I got my men killed. They're dead. I'm here, like the punchline to some bad joke. You think I like that? You think a minute goes by that those faces aren't right here, seared into my brain? Dante, Thomas T. Corporal. 156509386. Ambruster, William R. Private. 876662354. Wharton, Jeffery H. Lance Corporal. 874273993. Lockett. Duane G. Corporal. 1568709...
Lockett: ...55.
Nantz: Your brother was an outstanding Marine. He was my friend. And I miss him every day.

"I work for the State Department. Human resources. I know it's boring, but it enabled me to raise a son. I'm very proud of what he grew up to be. His name was Charlie Spencer. You murdered him. In Sokovia. Not that that matters in the least to you. You think you fight for us? You just fight for yourself. Who's going to avenge my son, Stark? He's dead... and I blame you."
Miriam Spencer to Tony Stark, Captain America: Civil War

"Oh, that's Charles Spencer, by the way. He's a great kid. Computer engineering degree, 3.6 GPA. Had a floor-level gig, an intel plan for the fall. But first he wanted to put a few miles on his soul before he parked it behind a desk. See the world, maybe be of service. Charlie didn't wanna go to Vegas or Fort Lauderdale, which is what I would do. He didn't go to Paris or Amsterdam, which sounds fun. He decided to spend his summer building sustainable housing for the poor. Guess where: Sokovia. He wanted to make a difference, I suppose. I mean, we won't know because we dropped a building on him while we were kickin' ass."

The Mechanic: Ok, we gotta get rid of the evidence. We gotta get rid of the body.
Angel Face: Bury him. Take him to the garden and bury him. C'mon, people, let's go!
Jack: Get the fuck off of him! Get away from him! What are you talking about? This isn't a fucking piece of evidence, this is a person, this is a friend of mine. And you're not going to bury him in the fucking garden.
Angel Face: He was killed serving Project Mayhem, sir.
Jack: This is Bob!
Ricky: Sir, in Project Mayhem we have no names.
Jack: Listen to me, this is a man, and he has a name. It's Robert Paulsen.
Ricky: Robert Paulsen?
Jack: This is a man, and he's dead now because of us. Do you understand that?!
The Mechanic: I understand. In death, a member of Project Mayhem has a name. His name is Robert Paulsen.
Ricky: His name is Robert Paulsen.
The Mechanic: His name is Robert Paulsen.
All the Space Monkeys: His name is Robert Paulsen. His name is Robert Paulsen. His name is Robert Paulsen. His name is Robert Paulsen. His name is Robert Paulsen.

Hughie: You know, this shit must be pretty good, if it's worth running through a human being for.
A-Train: Oh god, man, that was an accident!
Hughie: That accident had a name.
A-Train: And what about Popclaw? She had a name too! Charlotte! The only good thing in my life is gone now!
The Boys (2019), "The Self-Preservation Society"

Leo: Do you know how many rebels we lost, Barry, over the years, trying to defeat those Nazi bastards?
Barry: Countless, I'm sure.
Leo: Not countless. Counted. Eighteen thousand three hundred and ninety two. Three thousand six hundred and seventy nine were under my watch, and I felt the weight of each of their deaths—I still do.

"The following are the names of the men and women who did not die in service, but who are in fact alive today, because of Janet. Major Samantha Carter. Doctor Daniel Jackson. Colonel Jack O'Neill. Teal'c. Sergeant Connie Smith. Major Ian Hules. Senior Airman Simon Wells..." (fades)
Maj. Samantha Carter, "Heroes, Part 2", Stargate SG-1

Col. Kira: Sir, the latest casualty reports have just been posted.
Capt. Sisko: How many this time?
Kira: Including the troops lost at AR-558, 1,730.
Sisko: 1,730.
Kira: That's a lot of names.
Sisko: They're not just names. It's important we remember that. We have to remember.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, "The Siege Of AR-558"

"The Tunder brothers didn't make it. They never saw what it was like beyond the Walls. Nordy the bird boy? Didn't make it. The Jawsons, they didn't make it. Grady Senior, Grady Junior... they didn't make it."
Rucks, Bastion

''"Kaniks. Reksis Vahn. Yaviks. Pirrha. Araskes. Hiraks. Elykris... All slaughtered... by you."
Fikrul, The Fanatic, Destiny 2

"There's a clocktower in Hereford where the names of the dead are inscribed. We try to honor their deeds even as their faces fade from our memory. Those memories are all that's left, when the bastards have taken everything else."
Captain Price, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Yuri: (to himself) Looks like I've got them all.
Byleth: Am I interrupting?
Yuri: Nah, just wrapped up what I was doing. Need something, friend?
Byleth: Is that what you just wrapped up?
Yuri: Oh, you mean this... (shows Byleth a leather-bound notebook) I use it to write down the names of everyone I've lost over the years. We lost a lot of lives back in the war. Some of them were only with me a little while. Some of them were family to me.
Byleth: Why do you write down their names?
Yuri: Somewhere along the way, I figured I should record the names of those I've lost. The ones I failed to protect... There's nothing we can do for the dead—not in this world. Not really, anyway. And it's not like we know what happens after. So writing their names down here, that's all just for me...for the one who's still around. After all, they deserve to be remembered. Even if they're not here to see it.
