Quotes / Saturday-Morning Cartoon

"Overall, Saturday Morning Cartoons were quite the contributor to the world of animation. Was it the highest level of quality or the most thought-provoking? No, but that was okay. They were fun, and that was good enough. For many kids, it was their first step into the world of animation, and it sticks with them. My father, for example, does not really care for animated movies or shows — he's a businessman through and through — but his eyes light up when he talks about Jonny Quest, a show that he grew up with and loves to this day. That speaks volumes to me, and shows how profound of an impact these simple cartoons can have on a person. They might have been cheap, they might have been corny, and they might have been designed to just sell merchandise, but that does not take away how much the meant to the people who grew up with them. It's sad that they no longer exist, but that's not for a bad reason. Technology grew, and it opened the door for more options. We are no longer restricted to a single day of the week; we can basically now watch cartoons whenever we want. Also, cartoons are no longer limited to broadcast networks. Cable channels and the internet provided competition that wasn't restricted by censorship or regulations. This freed up the creative process, and provided a way for artists to try out new ideas. But for many people across the world, they will never forget the joy that Saturday Morning Cartoons brought to them, and how important it was to their childhood: a simple time when all you needed was a bowl of cereal and your favorite cartoon."
Saberspark, discussing the format

-"You kids today with your webflix and your quibis have it pretty good. Any anime you could hope to watch is just there on the internet, waiting for you to binge it at your leisure on whatever device you happen to have handy. Back in my day, outside of pricey home video releases, the only way to watch anime legally was on television, like the big fat old ones, and our viewing options were thus limited to the few anime the available networks chose to run, at the precise times they chose to run them. In the late 90s and early Oughts, the one timeslot almost universally dedicated to this purpose was Saturday mornings between 8 AM and Noon, and to any weeb who grew up on Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon, those mornings were sacred communion. Now, this may strike you as a demonstrably less convenient, and, if you know anything about analog broadcast tech, worse-looking way of watching anime than any of our present options, but what you don't realise is that I have very fond memories of Saturday morning anime blocks, and therefore they were objectively good. Okay, that's definitely not true, but there was something relaxing about getting to watch a variety of shows, not just one monotonous marathon, without having to think about what you wanted to see next. At most, you'd have to flip between two or three different blocks to avoid the lamest shows in each one."
