I wonder how better the film would have been taken in general (and worse by the rightward in particular) if instead of the USSR going on world conquest, it was instead “just” an armed invasion of Alaska to retake what the Tsarate had “wrongly” sold to the United States (never mind that the Aleut et al. probably would have preferred the land just be deemed unowned...) for the greater glory and honor of the Soviets. (Of course, the real reason would turn out to be Alaska’s oil...)
